Swap meet scores

Went to the local R/C swap meet this morning, hoping to find an O.S. 20 FP. Want to try the "This Works combo" No 20s to be found, but got an almost new .25 FP with venturi/needle for $25.
Also got 3 sets of Sullivan .015 X 52' lines for $9.00, a complete but never flown Ringmaster for $20, and 2 Tee-Dee .010s with spare props and glowhead for $45.
The best deal was a box with 8 new cox .049 glowheads ( 2 texaco, 4 hi-comp, 2 standard), a McDaniel 1/2A headlock, and 2 cox multi- wrenches for $10. LHS wants $9.00 for a standard glow head.

Not a bad effort for 1 hour and $105, includes admission and a hotdog!

Hey, I saw that stuff! Looked hard at the lines, but really need lighter ones at 52 feet. There were lots of FP 25's there; sounds like you got a good deal! I didn't see the Ring, you must have scored it early or else it didn't arrive until after I left. I was out of there about 9:10 am.

I got the RM home and gave it a good look over, pretty straight, minor bow in the LH trailing edge, gotta cut the rudder and take some of the 3/4" of offset out. Biggest problem is the engine bearer spacing. Looks like it was set up for an OS .40. about 1/8 -3/16" too wide for Fox .35 Stunt or the .25 FP I bought.
I have an early 60's Fox Combat Special with a .29 piston/liner, suction insert in the venturi and a ST needle assy. It fits the spacing,and set all the way back the drive washer lines up pretty good. Guess I'll try it 1st. Will need some tail weight, even without a tank or any muffler it balances in front of the forward leadout. I'll stop at the post office with it tomorrow and see what it weighs on the shipping scale.

Waiting for the rain and heat to let up, either too hot or too wet lately. Between me, my son, and buddy Tom it should be Profile Plentiful next time out. We've got a Skyray 35,ARF Flite Streak, 2 Rings, 1 Ring Jr,1 Akromaster, 1 Streak Jr. and a basket full of 1/2a planes. Should take most of a day to get flights on all of them.

Anybody want to trade a Tee-dee .010 for a .20 FP?

Bill I was at the same swap meet also and seen you with ring. I bought 3 kits from the same guy and some new lines. Every thing he had was a good deal.I picked up a veco warror , brave and a magician kit.There is always good deals when i don't take alot of money !!!!!

Yesterday, we dropped by one of the local RC fields in search of a friend of mine. While there, a fellow unknown to me offered us a shoebox of motor bits. Most of it was elderly Cox or WenMac bits. But there were a few prizes. A STG20/23, OS Max 10 RC, elderly McCoy 19, McCoy RH 19 unmounted and un-run w/gold glow plug, and the winner, a Fox .201 Free Flight Special in the box with the instructions, guarantee, and the tiny Fox decals. Fox .201 also has never been mounted or run. The price? "Please take them if you can use them." Done deal!

I was at an RC field a little while back talking when someone overheard me mention I flew control line, he gave me two new Walker U-reely handles. Not as good of a haul as yours but nice. A few years back one of my friends got a box of engines for $1 at a swap meet after going through them he wound up with 15 cox .049 engines, a Cox .010, and a K&B 40.

If you go to enough places you'll find deals on more stuff than you can ever use.

I may have you all beat but who knows...

When my dad retired he used to go walking every morning and one day he called me at work and said someone was throwing out a ringmaster that looked like it was in pretty good shape. He gave me the address and I heraded over before the trash man got there and sure enough there was a ring with a broken off stab sitting in the trash along with a fox 35 a perfect #11 tank wheels and a froom 2" spinner. I grabbed the whole deal and flew it for the entire summer. It was a very strong running Fox 35.

When I finally pancaked the plane later that year I found a treasure trove of building ideas. True craftsmanship had gone into the plane including internal gussets on the ribs, an adjustable lead out that had been filled in after the proper spot had been found - tank mounts that were bent to the shape of the tank and then threaded to fit through the fuse and tighten with a nut, etc. It was covered in some kind of common household fabric which my dad thought was nylon.

I love it when you get something for nothing.

Well, Steve Fitton and the guys from Richmond gave me a twister for free and they were going to give me a banshee as well with an os max 35 on it but I doinked it before I could get it in the air.

That probably doesn't count because that was out of the kindness of thier hearts for a less skilled pilot.

Nice stories, but nothing like what we see here in the NW from Don McClave.

At the end of nearly every flying season, Don just gives away that year's Classic Stunt model. Yes, he has also sold a model or two, but for a pittance and primarily to, I believe, get a commitment from purchaser, this indicating model might actually be used in competition.

I planted my Oriental--broken down leadout--at Stuntathon this year. No more than two weeks later I came home to find a never-opened Brodak "Original" Smoothie kit propped against the front door.

Tucked inside the box was *all* required Tom Morris hardware for control system installation.

It gets better. Don knows full well I have already built to Smoothies, am unlikely to build another. I even told him, at the contest where Oriental went in, my intention was to build a second Oriental.

So full disclosure means he was giving me a pump when it comes to Classic Stunt, no doubt assumes I will be passing this kit along to someone else who can put it to better use. Which I will. Less all the trick Morris hardware, of course!

It gets a little worse, still in full-disclosure mode: Prior to Stuntathon, inspired by Don's generosity over the years, his unfailing support of Classic Stunt nationwide, and the fact my '98 Smoothie has not been flown in three years, I decided to gift it to some likely candidate.

With the best of intentions I rounded up a strong ABC Fox 35, all the approved accessories, bolted it all together. Even found two sets of lines.

Tossed it in the van Saturday morning. The idea was to give package to either of two particular individuals. Depending upon who showed up, how badly they seemed to need better equipment, blah, blah, blah...

Broke the Oriental all to pieces first round of Classic.

**Instantly** scratched "Give perfectly good Smoothie away to a low-life," right off my to-do list for the weekend.

Yea, well if you'd built the controls right on the Oriental in the first place, it would still be with us. (Man, I could certainly say the same to myself on numerous occasions). But all in all, I suppose the old orange crate gave good service for a very long time. Beat me enough times.

It would be just as correct to say that if I had not cleaned it as often as I did the model would still be around.

Orange? **Orange!?** That beauty was mostly white MonoKote, panels of transparent red Micafilm.

Got a lot of use out of it, no regrets.
