Any C/L flyers in the Roanoke, Virginia Area???

Somehow I doubt it, but I have to ask. Seems like I might be relocated there for job reasons. Nothing like moving to the sticks for boosting my Stunt career..!!

Welcome to the Valley! You are correct that there is little CL around here. I live about 2 hours north (near Harrisonburg) on I-81. NC seems to have some activity, as does Northern Virginia and Richmond.

Our company has a plant in Roanoke, and I visited it last week. Beautiful place!

There are two major issues for CL in the valley -- First is no level ground. In the whole valley there are maybe two flat acres. Fortunately 1/2 acre of that is part of my property. The second is the grass, which is a little wiry in most places.

>Steve : First off, you probably shouldn't be calling Roanoke, Va as the "sticks". (Maybe you're from New York or LA). The metro area there has something like over 100,000 people. OK, the people aren't exactly packed in like New Delhi or someplace.

Can't tell from a single comment, but maybe you need an attitude adjustment. You'll appreciate the region more if you arrive with a positive attitude.

Anyway, I checked the 2000 Pampa manual, which lists members by state (my 2001 version only does it alphabetically). I didn't see any members. What I would do is visit the local hobby shops and go from there. Va Tech is only about 40 miles away, and there probably are a few CL people there.

Yeah, I'm originally from the Old Dominion. Too bad you're not relocating to Northern Va or the Tidewater area, because there are a lot of CL people on these regions. Currell

Steve, good luck on your move buddy. I hope all works out for you. I have heard in the past that thee was little activity in that area, so start some up. Try to get some new faces out with you. You know sticks or not they have to have soccer fields (10 every quarter of a mile or so) like the rest of the US. I am sure you can find a place to fly. First let me apologise to those residents of the Valley that I made mad with my comment about Roanoke being the sticks, I know it is a very pretty town, because I have been there before. And I have called Virginia my home for the last fifteen years, four of them in the Valley at that fabulous resort known as Virginia Military Institute, and the rest here in Richmond. And the move is not cast in stone yet. My wife picks where we live and work because she has the letters MD behind her name and doctors make about five times as much as lowly chemists like me, so we could end up anywhere from Virginia Beach to Roanoke or somewhere in between. I remember well that there is not alot of flat ground in the valley, because I had to march/run over a good bit of it. But Andy is right that there are soccer fields and parking lots, and I know Roanoke has a decent sized R/C club that might have some fith column control line guys there. But the Pampa directory looked pretty thin out there, so we will see.
For those that still want to keelhaul me, you are right, I am a Yankee by birth. Long live New Jersey!

Steve: Va. Beach will be a good area if you relocate there.

Speaking of which: anyone ever flown CL right on the beach? I did once, at Va. Beach, about 30 feet from the surf. You would hopefully land in the area where the sand is moist, but not in the actual water, and not over the dry sand either.

It was a Flying Clown with a Max .15 III. And, yes, the sand ruined the engine. But it was fun. Sea brezes all the way. Currell
