OTS rule proposal for diesel bonus points.

And a 50-point penalty for electric motors in OTS.
Seriously, what's the end game here? I have been lead to believe diesels can compete heads-up with glow engines. This seems to negate that sort of thinking.
Actually, I think Jim is bringing a well-developed sense of humor from out of his closet. Nicely done...

Ha!...I've been waiting for this moment to unleash my C.S. Deezil
.12 repro on the competition! I should be paid $25.00 for getting
it to run, I'll even take a a total points deduction for the $25..

Hmm...my DEEZIL repro from "CLASSIC OLD TIME ENGINES" runs fine.

Jim,
Great idea! Let's see if that brings some authentic(-looking, anyway)1940's diesels away from the spark circle at VSC.
If we can use funny-looking blue engines in 1940's designs, with only a few sneers or odd glances from certain 'purists'... why not use diesels of any era, too. Many DRONE designs are out there, no better or worse than their contemporaries. It'd be a kick to resurrect them with the proper fragrance!
PAW engines go almost that far back, themselves. It's just that they don't really like to stunt mounted head-up or head-down...
...Diesel fliers bear a unique manly aroma...

While you're at it, what will be the bonus points for whip control?

#5 source>diesel engines a 5 point bonus in PAMPA OTS competition.
What is the basis for this bonus? My understanding is that properly set up the engines can compete equally with the engines of that period. The bonus for biplanes & no flaps is due to a competition disadvantage which doesn't exist for a diesel.

Great idea,IF they're limited to fixed compression diesels, such Drone and Mite. Otherwise, what's the point? Given the same displacement, almost any adjustable compression diesel will blow the doors off any sparker of the period.
As a counter-proposal,why not limit all engines to ones contemporary with the airframe design,or,conversely, give bonus points for same? They certainly represent as much of a disadvantage as no flaps in the OT pattern.
While I have to admit most of the above is,to some extent, tongue in cheek,It does seem to me that OT is taking a dangerous turn toward a very slippery slope. The original idea, unless I'm badly misinformed(a not unusual condition)was to have a low key event which would keep alive some of the early designs and traditions. The COMPETION aspect was not important,or even desireable. Slowly, over time this has evolved into a "letter of the law " event where winning is the name of the game, and where anything goes,as long it's within "THE RULES",much like the (subject never to be named).
With sad resignation,

The guy with the Drone Diesel at the GSCB, also won quite a few times!
I have even seen Jim operate his diesel with little or no problems.
There is no need for a diesel bonus here.
Perhaps a diesel event just like we have a spark event at VSC,
but any other contest the GSCB rules are just fine.

You're close. The hardest part of running a diesel is first holding one at launch for someone else, and then trying to get decent service at the local restaurant. People who smell of diesel fuel are poor tippers and waitresses intuitively know this.

). Perhaps a 5-point rule would encourage two or three new people; hey, a 50% increase in our numbers. By all means let's keep this thread alive as just talking about it, and what a bad idea it is, may recruit us a couple of contrarians. We diesel folk are friendly, and invite you to join our elite group, small and smelly though it is. Jim
