The new factory is almost open.. With the new space I should be able to turn out more work. Also the photo with the bottom molded parts is finished. The turtle deck and nose molds are drying. Top and bottom parts together weigh 2.25 oz and fuse crutch weighs 4.25 so the total weight is 6.5 oz. Now were cooking!

Total wing weight with flaps is 14.25 and stab elevator plus horn is 2.5 the total airframe so far is 23.25.

Does anyone remember the Yellow Jackets? Art was woundering...

Nice place. Yes, I remember the Yellow Jackets and the Hotheads.

Did not check your bio, but looking at the club shirt...I will go out on a limb...you fly out at Buder Park, assuming the Merrimac River hasn't backed up and flooded the field?

Think I remember seeing "Yellow Jackets" shirts at the Kirkwood Park end of the summer Labor Day contest cica' 1963/64 or so.

I used to go to the Kirkwood Hobby Shop...Schaeffers Hobbies? in Crestwood was unknown to the kids and pretty much out of the range of a 12 to 13 year old on a bike.

Saw the club shirt, and it really looked familar.

I was a member of the St Louis Yellow Jackets! Are you talking about Art Sr. or Jr.?

We used to meet in the basement of Art (Sr.) mother's & father's house. Still remember that wonderful original juke box too.

Did you know that after returning from NJ to attend the 1st ever OTS meet in October 1970, that I CD'd the 2nd OTS contest , with the Yellow Jackets, and it was held at Buder Park!?? (Summer of 1971)

At the 1st meet in NJ the placings were: 1) Bob Hunt (Veco Mustang); 2) John D'Ottavio (All American Sr); 3)Tom Niebuhr (Barnstormer). All are still active, in fact, all the original contestants are still active!

The 2nd OTS event in the world in St Louis, was won by the late John Davis with an All American Sr.

PS: There is an interesting note about the shirts. When I went to St Louis to attend school and later work at McDonnell, I joined the Yellow Jackets. The Garden State Circle Burner shirts that I had at the time were the IDENTICAL bowling shirts that the Yellow Jackets had.. The only difference was the logo on the back!

I stayed in St Louis about 9 years before moving back to NJ. Fast forward... after 20 + years again with the GSCB, we moved to the Dallas area 9 years ago, where I joined the Dallas Model Aircraft Assoc (DMAA). I sure have been lucky to be a member of three great clubs!

I like the Yellow Jackets shirt. I was a member of the Hot Heads. Do you know if Mr.Al Recht (sp) is still with us? He gave me some very very fine sanding cloth used to polish fighter canopies. He worked for McDonnells. By 1983 there were only four of us left that I recall. Then I went into HO model railroading and lost track of the flyers in the St. Louis area. Was also a short time member of the Kirkwoodk Thermaleers. Great bunch of guys, most of them are/were AEs
and introduced me to carbon fiber.
