A-26 v. bird

Apparently the bird won....

Winfred reports that the 2004 Concours winner has suffered a mid-air with a foul fowl......If I knew how to spell nacelle, I would report that the wing and nacelle were destroyed...Windy also reports that he will rebuild it this winter...right after he completes repairs on Rich Giacobone's STUKA?

Thats a major bummer, especially since Windy seems to like his feathered friends. Wonder if he will change his tune now.....

Esconced is the right word, those yellow cowards rarely venture from their hideout. When they do emerge, its to picket the local KFC for about 30 seconds, while the media they already tipped off shoots some video. Then they run for their lives before the locals tar and feather them....

Back to Windy's plane, Peabody, you need to give us more info. Did the plane suffer enough damage to go in, or was the considerable damage you enumerated purely from the mid air itself. I can't imagine a bird taking out the entire nacelle and wing unless it was one of the geese that frequents the field up there.

Seriously I feel much better today,imagine this,I went from picking up the pieces to going for a colonostopy,WASNT THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.
I had no idea so many people had an emotional investment in the A26,,,,,,,,,Im ready to start the TIGERCAT anyway.
Ill make a video of this repair as nobody will believe it if I dont,and Rich Oliver still needs to get his anual BOMBER COMMAND FLIGHT.
I hever found several parts of the poor bird,head,one foot,it was pretty messy,looks like he went into the carbon prop at 10.000 and never knew what hit him,I STILL FEEL TERRIBLE ABOUT KILLING HIM!love Windy

Well, if he did in fact determine it was a "he" bird, then it must have been a colorful one as female birds, with very few exceptions, are drab for camoflage to protect their young. Just look at ducks, Cardinals, etc. Peabody the bird watcher, yea, that's the ticket.

Im sure there are alot of people out there with a story of Bird vs Plane, so ill put in my 2 cent story.

A few years back, late 1993 I was testing a new plane that happened to be mostly white with some orange trim, I was testing it at a friends property he lived within 5 miles of a beach and of course there were seagulls flying all over the place.
None of us considered these birds a threat, 3 flights on I was doing level flight and just felt a "tug" on the lines and saw a "white thing" fly down onto the ground, I didnt see the bird and at the time I thought It was my flap falling off. After the flight I checked the plane and saw a huge dent in the inboard wing. No real damage, apparently what happened is the bird was swooping and hit the inboard wing and decapitated itself on the lines thus preventing it from destroying the inboard wing.

True story.

Winfred reports that he flew the repaired B-26 today...that it flew fine, that the weight was gained in the outboard nacelle, and that the total weight gain was only 5 ounces (about the weight of the bird?).

Apparently Windy misses doing the "Crash Repair" column in STUNT NEWS?....

I had a midair with my Skyray 35 and a butterfly - it hit the outboard wing panel. I felt the jolt through the lines back down to the handle. Butterfly and Skyray both shrugged it off OK.

The skyray is still in tact?
