Attention Alabama C/L Flyers

The flyers in Birmingham have being flying at a new site for about five months. This property belongs to Koppers Inc. who leased it to a very small Christian school for $1.00 per year (for ever).

When we found this site the weeds were 4 foot high and there was hay growing instead of grass. All of that has changed. I had a meeting with the school principal back in March and talked about taking over the field. The only stipulation was to CUT THE GRASS and keep it clean and we would have full access.

We have cleaned the bathrooms, cut the parking lot and the grass field in wonderful, 1" grass length. Wheel Pants are NO problem at this site!

There is enough area for two 70 foot circles and one 50 foot 1/2a circle. Plus, PLUS we have field lights. I have flown only once at night and it does take on a different perspective, yea more practice.

Since we have the keys to this facility we can fly when we want but most flying has been on Saturday or Sunday mornings or Sunday afternoon when it is hot.

Hopefully, I am seeing an example of the "telephoto effect." Those power poles look dangerously close to your field. I certainly hope that is not the case.

Nope, no where near the circles, I promise. Let us know when you are going to leave the Great White North for a visit down South.

I will try to make it down to Smoke City one weekend and fly with you and B'ham modelers.

Maybe we can get Tom to CD another "Heart of Dixie" Stunt Meet.

I am working on the city and county officials here in Gadsden to get a Control Line park established. We used to have one but Socker and Softball complex wiped it out.

Hi Phil,
It's been a while.
The field is located in Hueytown about 1/2 mile from I-59.
The Jay Bird Road exit if you are traveling North on 59 from Bessemer or Allison-Bonette Drive if traveling South from Birmingham.
You follow Allison Bonnet Drive into Hueytown and take a left at Church's Fried Chicken. You can't miss it.

Is a muffler required?

Are combat types welcome?

We would be more than happy to have you come on down and burn the sky up with us. Mufflers are by your choosing. We will put up with almost anything, except R/C Flyers. We have a few younger flyers and it might be good for them to see a combat ship turn and burn.

Mild Bill Does the location have an address? MapQuest requires an address and/or a set of road intersetions to provide a map and directions. . . . Passing through B-Ham the first week in October and am curious. Ain't never flew a model in Alabama before.

Since we are dealing with old industrial roads I'll suggest the following.

Do a search for the following, 905 Old Warrior River Road, Hueytown, Alabama 35023. The reason for this, my business in located in this area and being a Inc. Mapquest will pick it up.

Now as you zoom in, you can see the first cross street before Old WRR is Koppers Drive, to the left and Pleasent Grove Road is to the right. Turn Left onto Koppers Dr. and you are there.
