Test Plane update 8:30 pm (photo's)

While waiting for my new lost foam core I decided to build a test profile for the PA 40 lite. I started it yesterday and will try to finish it today.(less paint) I think as a test plane I will just finish it with Z-Poxy. Weight should be 35-38 oz 675sqs.

This will give me a good idea if what I have been saying all along is right. Wink

Make sure to come back at the end of the day to see if I got it done..

Modern glues are the greatest! Wing started @10:45 almost done now @1:00. Could not have done that without 3M 77 and CA.

Won't make it tonight but here's more pic's tomorrow for sure. Fly this weekend.

8.75 nose 15.25 tail, Root 11.5,tip 9, 1 inch taper trailing edge. 675 sqs. projected weight 38 oz. This wing plan is from 10 years ago when I was building my Viper. I would build a foam wing plane and if it flew good build a beam wing. Same plan form as my Viper in Model Avaition mag. Oct 1994.

End of day where? I think there may be about 8-10 time zones between us. It's 9:15PM here as I type these words in Dnepropetrovsk, UA.

Central standard time USA

So I have about 11.5 HRS Left. Don't know if I'll make it but it will be close.

Bob, this may be presumptious of me, but I think you've got a good one here. This may sound odd, but looking at stunt ships since the age of 7, makes me believe you are on to something sound. I won't say why, because I don't want to start one of those stinking posts with the flames next to it!! LOL.

One thing I will say, is that you may be pleasantly surprised at how "true" foam wings fly. Now that I think about it, the way some of theses posts have been going; even that harmless statement may cause a riot!!
Keep sharp with that rotating razor blade on the engine. We want to be able to enjoy more of your fine work.

El-Sparko, That looks good!! I have a couple of questions, how do you like the motor? and what size is the wing? actually 3 questions have you tried coverin' a foam wing with 1/64 plywood??
I have a 550 in foam wing that has been callin' out to be covered with the ply and it has me wondrein'...

Be aware 1/64 ply weighs about 3 times as much as 1/16 5 lb balsa. I did this calculation last weekend because I am having trouble locating contest balsa. A 630 sq in wing will use about 11 ounces of 1/64 ply, but only about 4 ounces of balsa.

I don't know about the engine as I have not run it except on the bench. Wing size aprox.675 sq. No plywood Much TOO heavy!!Heck aircraft grade would be better than plywood.

I can tell from looking at the photo's, that you got yourself a nice piece of C grain on that fuse. Whipping up a simple profile for dynamic test's purpose's is "heads up."

I am a retread, - I did C/L in my youth and did not know what I was doing then other then having fun. And not much has changed.
