Brodak ARFs coming

I talked to the good people at Brodak today and the ARFs have cleared customs. They expect to have them by next week. The first ones in will be the Cardinal, full-bodied Oriental, and half-A Baby Clown. They haven't heard anything on the new 1/2 A sport engines, but these should be interesting as well.

Havent these been in the works for a LONG time?

I am just wondering why there is such a long lead time????

A long time indeed.....the two primary factors in the length of time are the process that Brodak went through to nsure a quality product. As I understand it, each model was prototyped, evaluated (see Z-man), revised and re-prototyped. There were several quality related changes in the earlier prototypes that took some time for the manufacturer to understand and complete.

At the Nats, John had the final prototype of these planes, and they are well worth the wait. John also expects the process to be speedier on forthcoming releases, because quality standards are now set and the time between first prototype and production should be significantly quicker.

I can understand why he went for the profile cardinal, and Baby Clown. To build these is probably pennies on the dollar.

Does he have plans to bring on a full blown piped stunter? I have heard rumblings about the strega. Are there any other "DIFFERENT" full blown stunters he has in mind or on the Drawing Board.

Sure would be awesome to get a couple of Full Tilt Stunt ARFs for test beds and general fun and local contest flying. You dont have to build a WHOLE freaking plane when you want to try something new engine wise that might be horrible! Just rig your ARF and test away.

I wasnt knocking his lead time just wondering about it that is all.

It's my understanding that the STREGA and the Vector are the leaders in consideration for full blown stunt aeroplanes. The profile Cardinal lends itself into morphing into all sorts of nifty .40 sized stunters
when it is released....look closely and you will see that the airfoil / wing are almost EXACTLY the Vector? A Strega ARC, at, say, a $130 price point, will provide a very competitive wing and a whole bunch of parts for "kit bashing" at a fraction of the cost of any prebuilt wing....xoomie!

I asked Windy and John if I could test the Proto Strega, since it is due for Christmas release and we have flyable weather in the Winter. I even have a super fast finishing method in mind for the paint job.

Now I have RO Jett that I can stick in the sucker! Need more...

As for BOM, not to be taboo but, do we need to have pictures of the build?

Reminds me of some comments I picked up on while sitting in on some of the workshops at the EAA Flyin at Oshkosh. The basic idea was to make sure that your own face showed up in the build photo's that one shows to the FAA to prove that you contribituted the famous 51% labor to the effort!

It's too bad that some of our contests don't agree with that philosophy.

If you check the Metrolina rules, they don't care how much extra work you did to it, or how much construction/reconstruction you did. If it has one drop of ARF blood, it's an ARF, period.

It's their club; they make their rules. Oh well....
