panel lines on $kote?

There have been some threads on using an Ultra Fine Sharpie to make panel lines. Most of these are about panel lines on dope and/or painted over with fuel proof clear finish. Two questions: 1) is the Sharpie ink fuel proof on its own? 2) does it stick to $kote (is it fuel proof on $kote or does it need clear over it)?

Fuel will take the Sharpie pen lines off.
We often write on the wings of our combat
planes,wing up,wing down if we do not
have a generator and heat gun at field
with us. A little fuel or alcohol,paper
towel and it wipes right off.

Sharpie ink is alcohol soluble. Except when I need to get it off of a very visible surface......

Aha! Finally Grzly23 and I disagree on something. This is *great*!!

Sir, the suggested Top Flite panel pen is no more effective on MonoKote than the easily removed markings from a Sharpie "permanent" marker. Begging your pardon. Sir.

Top Flight claims the panel lines pen is fuel proof on $kote. I tried it last night. You're right. They're wrong.

...which makes me nervious about the claims that Rustoleum sticks to $kote and is fuel proof.

The Top Flite claim is a marketing gimmick. Rustoleum does stick fairly well to Monokote and some other coverings, based on members of this list actually using it. Paint it before you fly it. Cleaning oil off is hard. Maybe buff the film lightly with a Scotchbright pad.Wipe the surface clean with laquer thinner or Prep Sol or similar pre-painting cleaner. Spray it on.
