It's a hard problem, maybe the hardest problem we have ever had to face; assuming we will win will ensure failure.

I saw your prez the other day on TV, andd he said, among other things:

1- Afganistan is no more under Taliban control

2- Saddam is locked up, waiting for trial

3 - Pakistan that has Nuclear weapons is now an ally.

4 -Kadaffi gave up his "little toys" and stopped harbouring terrorrists.

I can add:

All the turmoils going on at Iraq these days is happening for a reason: they can do it! OK, it's a mess, but it's better than the "peace" kept by Saddam.

Al Sistani is a leader among xiites, and even though - as a religious leader - he can't speak directly to the press he has made it clear that Iraq wil be no Ayatolah country, like Iran. All groups will have representation, Sunnis, xiites, curds. And he has legitimacy.

I see hope in Iraq's future. And The last thing the other arab countries want is havin a democracy around. Why does Israel bother them so much? Do you think the give a rat's "derriére" for the palestinians?

BTW, Did you know that a HUGE percentage of the palestinian population in Israel was sent to Israel by Syira, Iran, etc. after it became a State?

Did you ever notice that all oil states, with exeption of Norway are under totalitarian rule?

Abundance of oil does not help democracy, it;s a hindrance. The govenrnment does'nt need taxes, and things end up in a "you don't pay taxes and I run this show the way it pleases me".

A democracy shapes itself when a middle class emerges. When it pays taxes and eventually gains the right to speak out.

That's why China is nothing to worry about. They discovered business, capitalism, enterprise, and in a matter of decades (if not less) those old leaders will just rot out.

I must add that elections are no guarentee of a democratic formof government.

Milosevich was elected. So was Putin, and he's runnin' Russia witn an iron fist. Same with Chavez, down here in the South Cone.

A democracy starts wiht LAW and ORDER. That allows a country to get in the international market, honor it's deals, buy and sell, etc.

A middle class will inevitably emerge, and will, in time gain active voice in the country's affairs.

About the upcoming elections in the US, I have nothing against Kerry, but I wouldn't risk changing a president the has proven to be able to act under fire for another guy that is yet to be tested.

I also find the Democratic campaign of very bad taste, they seem desperate to win, no matter what they have to do.

I have not heard a less than than respectful word being said by the Republican candidate.

The point is that we should never give up and a lage percentage os=f terrorists have been eliminated. This will always make the world a betrter place. The problem is that that as Mr Bush said after 9-11 that this s a different type of fight and that it will take a very long time. It could be another 4 or 8 years or many generations. Is it worth it?... simply we can't lose!

We DO have allies, and even France is supplying intelligence, behind the scenes.. they just don't have the nerve to fight!

I haven't heard of the UN taking an oath to defend the US.. President Bush (and all presidents) took that oath. It is just that he has shocked the media and the Democrats by actually doing what he said he will. He has more guts than any of them.

But I will add one more comment since this, like many comments that people make over the years, has been taken out of context. Just as there can be no war to end all wars (the hope of World War I, but we know what followed) so there can be no war to end all terrorist acts. One can stop a burglar or a burglary, but there will be others to follow. One can win a war, but there will be others to follow. And that, I believe, was the gist of the message. We won't stop all terrorist acts now and in the future by stopping one group of terrorists, but we can stop that group, and perhaps (hopefully) make any future terrorists reconsider their position. Still, those bent on suicide attacks don't really care what follows.

So, can we stop all future acts of terrorism? No.

Can we stop these present terrorists? Yes.

You can win the present, but there will always be another war.

Enough said.

Elections are comming, it's as isue that concerns all americans (or at least it shoud), and I don't see why it should be trated diferntly than a flooded house, a sickness in the family, a son that got into the forces, a bad cut caused bay a blade os just a hott butt for sittin on top of a CA container.

I really hope this doesn'gt get locked, as far as no insults or personal atacks take place.

Hay, this president isn't everything I'd hoped for, or the Republican party ta boot. I don't like the fact that we waste political capital making sure Gay folks can't get married, as if Heterosexuals have done much to make that institution pristine. And I'm a guy that would like to see as many abortions not take place as possible, but not to the place where the government gets in charge to force people to have babies with major, life depriving defects. I'm tired of locking up pot heads and then going to have a few cool ones afterward while not having the funds to go after murderers and rapist.

Its a weird, sick world out there and I'd really just wish it'd keep it's paws of my little piece of it. This election, as was last, the candidate that most reflects these views and others I have is on the GOP side of the isle. I do believe what Al Sharpton, a person I also have problems with, said at the DNC convention, 'The Democratic Party is dead. We've come hear to revive it.' They didn't get it done, maybe after this election they will get back to being the party of the people. I know many people on both sides of the isle feel the same way.

I really come here for the stunt stuff NOT the political stuff. I am sure there is a political forum out there somewhere just waiting for your input. Brad

This reminds me when I was in high school and lived in Mt. Carmel Illinois, not Illi-noise. The boy down the street got a control line airplane for his birthday. His Father (Larry Bruster) ordered me to fly the airplane first with his son at the school. I did not want to fly it first and tried to get out of this but his father was the type person that would not take NO for an answer. At the school every thing was ready, control lines were laid out and checked, airplane fueled up, etc. I instructed Mike Bruster to launch the airplane on my signal. Mike had seen me fly my airplane may times and knew how it was done. At least that is what I though. Engine was running and I gave Mike the signal to release the airplane. Mike turned the airplane 90 degrees, aimed it directly at me in the center of the circle and let it go. I ran as fast as I could to try and get the control lines tight but it was too late the airplane went up turned and did a wing over then straight down and crash. Busted it to pieces. Mike Bruster (16 yrs old) started SCREAMING like some woman. He screamed for 5 minutes non stop and while we walked home carrying the broken airplane, fuel, battery he continued to scream non stop for 10 minutes as we walked along the street. People were opening their front door and looking at us as we walked wondering what all the screaming was. I put down the battery and fuel in his drive way and went home. That was the last time I ever had anything to do with Mike Bruster or his Father ever again.
