Documentation, Super Combat Streak w/two legs...

I'm considering building a new Super Combat Streak for use in Classic next year. It would really be nice to use two-wheel gear, preferably with sheet aluminum legs.

Does anybody have suitable-for-judges documentation indicating that at least one Super Combat Streak, prior to cut-off date for Classic Stunt, was fitted with such gear? Or even two-wheel gear with wire struts, I suppose...

Dan, not too sure about cut-off dates for your thread, but I flew a wire two wheel CStreak at a meet at the WW State pen in l978. No pics however. In reviewing the above I realize it is of little help to you.Will we see you in Salem?

Willing to be wrong, but don't MOST events allow substitution of 2-wheel gear, as long as the exit/wheel locations are the same as the single-wheel gear?

I don't think so, although I don't have Classic Stunt rules at hand.

Hoping I'm wrong and you're right. Sure would simplify things, although my existing model actually works okay with single-wheel gear and outboard tip skid.

So far it's been an experience just convincing folk a single-wheel gear is per the plans. Seems as if very few SCSs had any landing gear at all.

Dan By the end of 1957 my flying buddy Dave Merrithew and myself had broken the nose off out flight streaks and we made built up bodies for the wing and tail. We used two wheel gears on them. Our models looked just like the topflight Super Streak that came out later.We were very suprised when we saw the SS kit. We monted the gear at the leading edge. I have seen a few with moving flaps also.Howard Shenton who is in my club was a well known combat flyer also from Binhamton NY may remember them with two wire gear and I will see him next week and we can write you a letter saying we remrmber them built that way if you want. I built all ofmy All American Sr's with the gear at the leading edge but I do have old pictures to prove that. I have some very old pictures that I took in the 50's and there may be a Streak in there.

When did the Super Combat Streak come out? I'm not familiar with it, but I was out of the hobby from late '61 to about '72.

For next year, can we all say "contest," knife fights, Serious Stunt, tons 'o glory, head-to-head competition...?

Hi Dan Give me about till middle off Oct. I will be in New York state in two weeks and my friend Dave may have some pictures from the 50's. I did a quick look and found one picture of me sitting on the ground at a contest changing the engine in a Reactor in 1956-57.I will email it to you and you may have a good time looking at it.

The proposed timeline is right in line with how construction proceeds. If I get ahead of ya, I'll just make both a single- and two-wheel setup, use what I can get away with. I mean, use whatever best fits the documentation I have at hand.

Hi Dan I didn't forget about you. I have checked with Phil Bayly in St Pete Fl and Howard and they don't remember anyone putting a two wheel gear on the Super Streak. I am going to New York State this week and maybe get down to NYC for the contest at Flushing Meadows on Sunday. I will ask around and let you know what I find. Here is the old picture I told you about. I am on the left with the Reactor and Omega. Tom Z is on the right with a 52 Nobler from plans. Tom was a great Free Flight Guy and he was the first to have a car in our group.Here is one more from the same time,me on the left Dave Merrithew and Tom Z. Free Flight was out true love then came girls and the old gang broke up.

I went back and cleaned up the picture and it looks like I just crashed the Omega thing. It looks like the motor mts are broken off.
