Fox 60 plug threads

Folks, I am at my wit's end. I have a
Eagle 60 and stripped the plug threads
in the head. I need to know what everyone
has done to repair this. I've seen info about
Heli-Coil inserts and replacing the Head.
Unlucky for me, this is an older 60, with the
Flag cast on the side of the housing. So I
don't know if a new head from Fox will work.

Mr Lee of RC Modeler mag does this for a reasonable price. Check the Want Ads in the back for his address. I had him do a Fox Sandcast for me once, and the results were great. Currell

Better ( and less costly)to let someone do it that already has purchased the insert tool. Heli-coils are the standard fix for this.

Big diffrance the Heli-coil will pull out and a Time-Sert won't.

SPARKY: WE AGREE ON SOMETHING!!!!!

Time-Serts are indeed FAR better than Heli-Coils. The Time-Sert is swaged in place with a thread forming tap and also seals at the top of the insert with a flange,so you don't lose any plug seating area. It also has much better heat transfer than a Heli-Coil.

Have you tried Fox? They keep a surprisingly comprehensive stock of older parts, or used to.

Fox has plenty of new heads, both angled plugs and straight plugs, for the Eagle 60. There's probably a 5 gallon bucket full in their stock room. I've been there many times and have seen them. Most of the Eagle 60's that I've built up for stunt have been out of their trash barrel of engines returned for repair, but not able to be salvaged. Most have had the hole in the exhaust for the rotary baffle welded shut and a lug built up on each end of the exhaust to mount a muffler. They have worked well for me now for two years.

When you go to Fox Manufacturing, do they just let you prowl around in their shop/factory...picking out parts? Do you have some personal/special relationship with someone there that enables you to do that? Or, is that a general policy that anybody can go through their stuff? Just curious...not packing my bags...yet...

25 years ago I was at Fort Smith and wanted to buy some 36XBB. I asked Duke if I could hand pick some from stock and he let me go through what they had on hand. I got 4 very nice feeling ones and when I asked him what he wanted for them he sold them to me for the 50% deal that he had on a few motors in the hobby shop. Only thing was I got no box or papers. I have no idea if they would still do this but would not be surprised if they were asked nicely and they were not busy.

Bahrman and Sparky, I went to Time-Sert site and could not find a 1/4 X 32 insert listing. Did I miss something?? Glow plugs are 1/4 X 32.

Don't know about that site but they do sell 1/4 X 32.

You must've missed something. They make every standard thread I know of, including most metric sizes down to 2.5mm (the smallest I've used).

In our aluminum engine programs at Reynolds Aluminum, we tested a BUNCH of thread inserts,these were far and away the best. They're easy to install,seal better, have better heat transfer,install in the same space as a heli-coil,and have far less tendency to unthread themselves(other than that they're about the same).

That is STRANGE guys. I just got an E-Mail letter from them and they said that they DID NOT produce 1/4" X 32 size. HMMMM Maybe one hand doesn't know what the other is doing with them. Recon?? I also got a price for the 4-40 size. $55.65 for the kit with five inserts, and extra inserts 25 each will cost $1.13 each. I have never had a Helicoil pull out, so I will stay with them and not go to Time-Sert.

I was intending to buy both the 1/4 X 32 as well as the 4-40 sizes as that looks much better than the Helicoil. But I don't know for just the 4-40 size. I don't think so though.
