Photos Added Flew Some New and Some Very Old

I was finally able to get out and do some flying this past Saturday. Joe Connelly, also a re-tread, and I were able to get some flights in on some very old airplanes and tried some new-never flown planes. Joe has a very nice Brodak Nobler that has not been in the air yet and an new All American built from plans. Two beautiful planes, I wish I could make them look as nice.

First try on his Nobler blew the prop-nut and unfortunately we could no get it fixed to fly. We were able to get in a nice maiden flight on his All American. The tank on Joe’s All American seemed like it was a quart. The flight seemed to last 15 minutes and that plane was moving (4-second lap times). He fell over after the flight he was so dizzy. We will get that Nobler in the air next time.

We then flew my Magician that my father built over 40 years ago. Built with Ambroid, Silk and AeroGloss it still flies great and is rock solid. Pictures to be posted later.

We then tried my new ARF Flite Streak with a low time Enya 19. We soon figured the Enya needed more bench time. The couple of short flights that we got in on it have me really excited about it. What a joy to fly! It’s predictable and extremely maneuverable. When I apply up or down, it turns and turns FAST. After the engine quits it just keeps floating around the circle. I was a bit worried that an Enya 19 might be a bit too small, but boy oh boy it pulls it around just fine and fuel-efficient to boot.

Last we flew another 40 plus year old Carl Goldberg Shoestring Stunter with a Fox 35 that is even older. Pictures to follow later. Talk about fun. Had a solid 4-2-4 break without having to touch the needle. We could only get in one flight on the Shoe because it was getting too dark.

Great way to end summer. I hope we have more like this before the snow flies.

Glad you and Joe were able to hook up. He is a real nice guy.
Save me a spot on the flight line next summer. We will be up there again I am sure.

Thanks Chris for the compliments on the Nobler and the All American.Thanks also for not telling anyone that the reason we couldn't fix the prop nut was that I forgot to bring the allen wrench for the spinner.The Fox backfired and loosened the nut, and I couldn't get the spinner off without the allen wrench.Also , thanks for not telling them about me hooking up the lines backwards, and busting up my Mike Ogren Stunt Stick.
While we are talking about flying last Saturday, a couple of things
Have come to mind.Chris's planes are all set up with the old non uniflow tanks.His Magician with a Fox 35 the Shoestring, also with a Fox 35, flew without ever missing a beat.Chris is a much better flyer than I am, and he was smoothly putting these planes through a lot of different manouvers.There were no Fox burps, and these were profiles.I guess my question is, what is wrong with running these simpler setup tanks.

Thanks Joe for the nice comments about my flying skills.
Good question about the old standard venting on my tanks. I’ve been thinking I need to upgrade to uniflow venting on my tanks but have not yet. I understand that they help to keep a constant run through the entire flight but don’t know how to hook them up.

As you can tell I’m still learning and have much to learn. I just fly for fun and had a blast on Saturday. Keep in mind these two planes are over 40 years old. I’ve uploaded photos and wish I had my camera with me to take some pictures of both of your airplanes. They truly are a sign of an accomplished craftsman. I hope the weather holds out so we can fly some more.

I need to thank Elwin and the gang on this forum for talking me into trying an Enya 19 on my ARF Flite Streak. It’s a great combination!

Thanks Paul for hooking me up with Joe. I’m looking forward to the next time that you, Propbuster and the family come back up to visit.

Glad you guys had fun. Nice looking old planes. When Joe came out that day this past summer, he had his Nobler. It was very nice. He did not fly it that day because it was a little windy.
We had a blast with the other planes.

geese, Looked like fun. I know you 2 are in my area. I live in New Berlin. Where did you go fly? My normal place, is a soccer field, that is only used in the fall, and was busy. The rest of the year I have it to myself mostly.

Next time you do this let me know. I may be able to make it.

If you ever wanted to see a perfect example, I have a fox 35 that burps like a baby on diet coke.

It would be great to have another guy to fly with. I live in Greendale not far from you. On Saturday, Joe and I met in Racine and flew in Silver Lake Park. We had the place to ourselves. I’d like to try your local soccer field also. Send me a private message with your phone number and other info and we’ll all try to get out again.

Paul,
That trainer with the white wings is the one that Joe turned into a kit with crossed lines. I felt pretty bad about that one. Joe had some bad Voodoo going on that late afternoon. But better that plane than the other two he has.

I hope he did not do any damage to the engine. If I remember it was a good runner.

Man I can't wait until next summer. I may have to get the boys to cut two circles on the farm.

hey glad to see you guys got to fly, sounds like you all had a blast. I remember seeing Mr. Joe's Nobler it is really nice.

The engine is fine.It really wasn't a hard hit, but it hit at an angle and the foam wing broke at the root of the fuselage.Chris was hand launching it, and when I thought I was giving it up elevator, I was actually giving it down.Hope I never do anything that dumb again.

Thats good news that the engine was not damaged. Now you can build another plane to put that engine in over the winter.
