Yes, it's me. Paul Smith. I lived in Wichita from 1973 through 1977. Flew KC-135's my own Cessna 150 Aerobat, and every CL event I could enter.

In (circa September -October '77 ), Elvis played in Wichita and died soon after, I got a job offer from GM, and Jimmy Carter decided to gut out the armed forces.

By the name BIGIRON, you must be Marvin Denny. The same Marvin who diagnosed an igniton problem on my '67 Pontiac by telephone and fixed it with parts from his garage.

That's Tony Lang, from the Detriot area. I haven't seen him for a few years. Talented guy with a piano. The first time I saw him, he was sitting by the pool at the Roadway Inn in Tucson drinking champagne and eating doritos!

He graduated from the Julliard school of music. Hardly a flounder.

Tony actually patterned himself after John Belushi in some of his acts. Wore a suit like Jake Blues and did an act at the combat team trials in 1987. Also, a good "Rocky" imitation of Mr. T.

He use to fly a Black Monokoted Super Duper Zilch with a H-P Gold cup 40 engine. He was the inspiration for me building mines. Always had a loud booming voice and a great laugh. He was and still is an all around good guy. Sure do miss flying with him. Last I heard he was having personal problems and moved in with his sister in PA. Wouldn't mind flying with him again.

As has already been pointed out, it is Tony Lang. Last I heard he is in PA hanging with his sister. Experienced some poor health I think but is recovering well. Lost a good amount of weight as well. He flew over here a couple of times. Those 70 foot lines really stretched the limits of my circle, but he made it. Have not heard from him in the last year or two though. Miles said he was in the state this year, but never made an appearance in this direction.

Tony showed up at Phil Spillmans place, last month at his contest. He was alive and well, lookin good and laughin' loud! He still plays a mean piano..

And I had to go to Korea. Would have been nice to see him. Maybe next time around...

Tony Lang - quite a character!

He actually built, finished and flew a stunter at the field at one of the VSCs. (yes, there was a little sand in the dope finish!)

He's also a fantastic musician and authored and arranged the Stuka Stunt Blues(song), which he had playing on a boom box at the field. I think he listed his occupation as piano tuner..

He also flew a small bipe (right, guys?) in very high winds at Tucson, to the delight of the VSC crowd. A memorable guy, I believe he won Tom Lay's Had The Most Fun award that year.
