I agree. I worked for many years in the aircraft industry, but most aerospace engineers involved with manufacturing belonged to the same manufacturing society as automotive - SAE, the Society of Automotive Engineers. SAE keeps the "standards" of manufacturing and production for both industries.

Most mechanics know more about the actual car or aircraft, anyway. Engineers are typically too specialized to have the perspective of the whole product.
