brodak strega

couple of questions:
what is the age class junior, what ages?
When are the world team trials for the next WC in Spain?
would a Brodak strega and a PA .65 on a pipe be a realiable combination?
I think I am going to have somone help me build the strega so I can possibly still recieve appearance points and have a half way decent airplane. Can anyone help me out, sorry if they are dumb questions... Thanks, BEN

Ben: Start now getting ready for the team trials which is normally on Labor Day Weekend. Also 2005 should be trials year. Remember to build a really good airplane and get a good if not better coach. A coach that knows the pattern and what to look for helps tremendously. Now jim says if only DOC would listen to me. Good luck on adventure to the team trials. I would hold a bit until it is determined that there will be a displacement change in FAI....then a .72 or .77 wold be a nifty choice....
If there is no change, I would think that a .61 would be the choice?

No questions are dumb, only some of the answers! hahaha (none here)
The 65 pipe set up will work great. Kent Tysor (he's near here) is running that same set up (but he has a RoJett, your choice on engines)and was NATS Advanced Champion, and has competed in the last couple team trials.

There are no appearance points in the WCs, if that is what you're planning on using it for, since there is no BOM at the WC.

There is, however a weight limit, just ask Kent.

On the *help* issue for AMA, that's a situation that we have been pretty much banned from discussing here! hahahaha

I'm pretty sure as of now that the 65 would be too large an engine according to the rules. Look into the 61. These are OK. There might be a rules change regarding engine size. Email Brett Buck and he'll know what is going on. It would be an interesting match up, you and Chris Rud. Hope all is well.

Wished I could help more but you have blown by my expertise... Might try contacting Jim Lee and get together with him and Todd or Bob G in Dallas. I think these are the closest guys to us that have had worlds experience and can give you some insight into what's involved. Either is close enough that you and your Dad could fly for a practice day once in a while..

If you're talking about junior age for the next w/champs - it is up to and including the year in which you turn 18. In other words, if your 18th birthday is on or before December 31, 2006, you are eligible as a junior for the 2006 w/champs.

As for engine size, the current limit is 10 cubic centimetres, you can figure out the conversion! This may be changed in time to allow larger engines.

Dont forget though, its the size of the skill on the handle that counts, not the size of the engine.

Hey, according to that I qualify as a Junior. Gotta get my planes dusted off and the rust off my handle. I am sure you meant "as long as you don't turn 18 before 2006.

And for the other question, the team trials are normally held over the Labor Day Weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in the odd number years (like 2005) and are held in Muncie on the same "L Pad" where the Nats competition is held.

We flew with you a bit on the practice circles at Muncie this past Nats and you appear to be well on your way. Keep working, and don't let those old geezers stop you. Look at the guy ahead of you. That's the guy you want to beat. Keep at it and pretty soon there isn't anybody ahead of you any more. That's when it really gets scary.

For the w/champs, a junior can turn 18 up to the end of the year in which the w/champs is held. So, (I'm guessing that Ben is a junior here) providing that his 18th birthday is before the end of 2006, or to clarify, his 19th birthday is after the end of 2006, he is eligible to fly as a junior at the 2006 w/champs. Well, you know what I mean.

Mind you, he doesn't have to fly as a junior - he can fly open any time he likes. And of course, his placing can count towards the team placing if he finishes in front of one of the team open players.
