I saw a crash on the 5:00 news. Looked like a Lazer, Extra, etc. Anyone know who the pilot was??? Bummer.

Hi Roy,

Richard Bobbit of Parker, CO was killed yesteday flying his Sukhoi at an airshow in Santa Fe, NM. There is some info on the web. I first heard about it on the evening news in Devner tonight.

We in the Rocky Mountain Aeromodelers had our Labor Day constest at the Front Range airport just east of Denver. We were using a very nice parking ramp at a remote part of the airfield. Several of us looked up and saw this blue and white Sukhoi taxi over and park near our flying area. The pilot said he saw us flying and wanted to come and watch. Many of us walked over to check out the Sukhoi, talk with the pilot, and take pictures. It was a very nice ship in excellent condition. Can anyone who was at the Labor Day contest confirm that it was Richard Bobbit who visited our contest? There can't be very many blue and white Sukhois around Denver.

It's not much of a picture but.... Story relates that he did not pull out of a dive. Reasons unknown. Sad.

Hi Guys Thank you all for the responses. This is truly a sad thing to happen. I just returned from the Reno Air Races recently, thankfully, there were no accidents. Just good racing-the weather was cold and windy!!!

I hope the pilot was not the one that came over to the Rocky Mtn Champs. He seemed genuinely interested in our model flying. I was down at the Speed circle which was the 5th and last circle in a row from where he parked the Sukhoi. He came down and talked with several of us and so we actually put him to work as the Spark Man on the crew starting one of my Jet Speed ships. He really seemed to enjoy the involvement as he had never whitnessed such goings on.

He really got a kick out of helping out. Seemed like a really nice guy. I sure hope it wasn't him.

I caught some news footage of a Sukhoi crash this morning before leaving for work. Appears that the plane was in a nose down spin, as you might see it perform at a show, only the spin never stopped, and it went straight in continuing to spin. It was a Sukhoi for sure, but it was only a short clip. I did not have time to fully take in the details of what I was seeing. A shame.
