OS FP 20/25 REALLY WORKS

Returning to C/L after more than 50 years, I bought an FP and FP 25 and installed it on an ARF Flite Streak. Great engine runs. Just like the old days, no messing with 4-2-4 since that was not used in the 40's anyway. Question: Why should I not expect a similar engine performance from a FX or an older Max?

The FX is a higher performance engine than the FP. The engine is designed to run faster than the FP, which depending on you could be good or bad. The FX is ball bearing and heavier.

How much older engine are you talking about? Those from the 50s & 60s are going to be less powerful baffle type instead of schneurle. They will also run more like a Fox 35 engine and require more oil than the modern engines.

Lots of changes, glue, iron-on covering (I still tend to use silkspan), ARF, extremely powerful engines. The last contest I flew in (in south Texas) George Aldrich was just learning to fly the pattern and used a Drone diesel. If I can regain some skills (and overcome slower reaction time) I am looking forward to entering OTS next year. Will probably use one of my Ignition Super Cyclones or Anderson Spitfire. I am really enjoying it. Have only flown 2 outings but had no trouble with inverted flight, horizontals, outsides, etc. but they are really sloppy.
