Basic Trainer Plans

Does any one have a basic trainer dimensions that can be downloaded
For a 15 or 19 sized engine
I what to make some for my son and his friends
The cast for The Brodak streak trainer is $10 plus shipping and tax
way tooo much for me

I have a couple of Gullow #2 trainers, one with McCoy 19, other with AM 25 diesel. Basic dimensions are span 29 in, chord 6 in + 1 in flap tapering to 0 at tip. Stab and elevator span 13, chord 4 at center, 3.5 at tip. Hinge line in middle. 9 in from hingeline to TE of wing. 7.5 from LE of wing to prop. Both airplanes have been painted several times and repaired, and are tail heavy enough that both engines have heavy hubs. CG is at @ 3/4 in from leading edge of wing. Very stable, but can be looped. They have no rudder offset or engine offset.

Hmmmm....I don't see how Fred is going to be able to construct,apply
finish and add hardware for "several" models for his Son and his
Son's Friends for less than the $10.00 "Cast".....I know Larry,
He is not a greedy fellow...seems like he was just providing an
appropriate optional choice to a question.

I'm not certain that the $10.00 for the Streak Trainer is correct. The latest suggested retail price from Brodak is $48.39, which, to me, is a bit spendy for a solid balsa trainer, even in this day. {See:

Perhaps the $10.00 figure Fred mentioned is the shipping cost rather than the retail price. If not, I'd like to find out who his source is. There a few more Brodak kits I wouldn't mind having. With discounts like that, I could afford to stock pile a few.

Is $10 all you can spend? Your original post makes no sense. You cannot buy a 1/2a engine for that price. What is it you really want to accomplish?

Just copy one of your 1oz Goodyear planes but make it 20% bigger and slow down the controls.

I would suggest only making ONE basic trainer and let them all learn on it. It doesn't take long until one gets tired of a basic trainer, then you want something that will do more.

Fred, if you still any of the goodyear racers you used to compete with. Just put a mild engine on it. May have to cut cut down the control input. Of course that goes with almost any of the planes. I still think the old Ringmaster is the best trainer. After they solo with it the controls can be setup for more response. Later, DOC
