As was posted some time ago, one of the issues with using a brushless electric motor for C/L is that it needs a specific type of motor controller to operate properly. That controller needs a specific pulse train sent to it. I was working with an analog circuit pulse generator circuit and came to the conclusion that it was going to be much more complex than I was willing to deal with. It appeared that a microcontroller was the elegant way to go, but I have never worked with them. I ran into a gentleman named Dan Baldwin on the DIY Electronics forum on the Ezonemag.com site who understands microcontrollers very, very well. He programed a PIC microcontroller for me that can set the max thrust as well as the run time up to 8 minutes (and the idle speed if you want it). It has start and emergency stop pushbuttons to initiate and halt operation. It uses only a handful of parts and worked the first time I hooked it up. I tested it out today and it worked with GWS brushed, Castle Creations brushless and Jeti/Hacker brushless controllers. Dan said he could provide the PICs in small quantities at a nominal price if anyone would like some for their own project. His email is [email protected] to contact him. Delete the "nospam" for it to work.
Now I have no reason to put off getting the plane ready. I think I am going to use an Aveox motor at first, then maybe an AXI. We'll see which one fits best. I also have a couple of Jetis to try.

Will post the results when I can break loose enough to get the plane done.
