I have used colored silkspan and also colored silks. Have also tried dying nylon. But, the best transparent covering I have come up with, is jacket lining polyester from the local fabric store. My Gold Brick used the Gold Polyester. The material comes in all colors. All you have to do is pick which one you want. I put mine on with Balsa Rite iron on glue. Then about three to four coats of Nitrate dope. Don't worry about the sagging and wrinkles. A Monokote iron will take them out, especially the sagging. The final coat after all the graphics are on is two coats of Butyrate dope. When that dries my coverings are drum tight. Later, DOC

Hi Doc,

That is basically the material that Tom Morris sells. His, however, is left natural. Can't get the jacket lining around here, especially the lightweight stuff. Only one fabric shop, and they don't carry it. The Burlington factory near here used to (might still do) make it, but they don't sell to the public. And Tom has a very good price on it.

I use a hair dryer/heat gun to "shrink" it.

So far I haven't found a good means of coloring it before application.

I wish I could get it in colors like you do!

Some places don't list as jacket lining material. The stuff I get is about the same weight as nylon. Just look for polyester in almost any fabric store. Later, DOC

Hi Doc,
I meant to ask you before.....
Does the material you are using have a "shiny" side?
And does it fuzz if you cut into it when sanding?

I have not noticed a shiny side. Both appear to be the same. Also it will fuzz where I overlap it when I sand. But extra dope takes care of that. Later, DOC

DOC;

As far as I know, the covering being sold by Tom Morris is unwoven.

Is your polyster lining unwoven, or does it have a weave to it.

Mine has a weave. It also takes very little dope to seal it.
