Tank Baffles

I'm faced with yet another tank building project. I'm considering putting in a baffle near the fuel pickup to slow the change in fuel head in sharp maneuvers. (sort of like an internal Chicken Hopper device).

Given, this requires extra work. Am I wasting my effort?

Also given, commercial stunt tanks don't have baffles. There must be something to this.

Before anyone jumps on me for not checking the archives, I did. I found 421 "hits" on and I soon got tired of reading them all.

Please respond quickly, I'm within 2 days of making a tank.

Just what we talked about at the Follies. I think it makes a difference for what that's worth.

Actually, it is fuelhead change at the uniflow outlet which could make a difference (at least in a uniflow tank.) I don't see much difference in performance between baffeled and non-baffled tanks. I wouldn't bother unless I was trying to reproduce a Palmer tank.

The last 3 tanks I've built are baffled types. These are based on Russian/Ukrainian styles which I think originated with the 'Palmer tank'.

I have photos and sheet metal layout drawings of the other 2 tanks as well. One is a simple box with a wedge shaped sump. This is currently in my ARF Nobler. If you want all this info, just email me through the forum.
