fuel pick up location

My son recently wrecked his plane.We just about have it back together. The tank has a split and 2 holes from screws that held the muffler on. I typically don't repair tanks.In the past I've soldered a few with good results.I've never taken a tank apart though.The other night I took the side of the tank off which has the pickup tube soldered within it.I've straightened the tank,and repaired the holes and cleaned it real well.I'm to the point of soldering the cap back on except the pickup tube fell out during the straightening process.The tank is a medium wedge standard vent Taft tank.Should I locate the pickup in the center of the wedge? Would having the pickup headed slightly down to the bottom be the answer? My son has recently learned to fly inverted so hes not just goin round n round. Thanks Ken

Locate the pick up tube in the wedge centered halfway between top and bottom of the tank and about an eighth of an inch from the back cover. A lot of Taff's tanks had the pick up tube cut at an angle and then the very tip was bent over the back edge of the wedge. If the tube has the angled cut, you can then push it all the way to the back.
