picking up the handle

thinking hard about getting back into u/c after a long period of immobility with a transmitter in my hands. my current situation is....no known u/c club around here (columbia, sc) hence no nice, insured flying site. the local soccer multiplex field down near owens downtown look nice, but i'm sure that the wow-wow-wow-wow of a .40 nobler would get me escorted out of there. i guess i could fabricate a huge muffler and use a big old prop. help! please!

Welcome! There is help at hand! I would suggest that you join PAMPA...there are around 20 flks from SC, and a bunch from NC that fly on a regula basis....they will be able to help you with all aspects of returning!

I'd bet that if you use one of the muffled OS LA's, there won't be a noise issue...they are amazingly quiet. Welcome back! Steve

I am up in NC above Rockingham in the Aberdeen, Southern Pines, Pinehurst area.
There is a contest over in Huntersville (near Charlotte) on the weekend of the 23rd. OTS, Classic, Profile on Saturday, PAMPA classes on Sunday. Might even have combat, not sure, and probably racing.

hey bill, i'm originally from bennettsville. used to fly with johnny powers, sammy hill and an old colorado native that lived in laurinburg. wasn't much c/l flying going on there, i think bo berry may have flown c/l a long time ago. thanks for the help. i plan on carrying on with the .40 and a reasonable muffler.

Hey Scott, You're not alone, but I encourage you to come up to Huntersville either the 23 or 24 or both if possible. You'll see what's going on in C/L flying. I'm an old C/L flyer from as far back as the 40s and was out of the sport for over 40 years. I got involved with RC because I didn't know there was any C/L around until I found out about and hooked up with the guys in Metrolina Control Line Society. I am enjoying the sport as much as I ever did even though I was basically a speed flyer in the 49s, 50s. and 60s. I promise you the trip would be worth your while. Check under upcoming events and you'll find a flyer on the contest plus a map of how to get to the beautiful facility consisting of three paved circles and two grass circles plus a 600 ft.
