Hey Guys,

This is our (Mark & Kathy) 4th Fall Follies and I am very pleased with the turnout, level of skill--not only in the flying but also the design and color combinations of the planes, the good humor and comradery shared by all. It more than makes up for the long trip. I only wish Mark's work allowed him to attend and compete in more than one contest a year.

Now on a serious note. I'm still reeling from the viciousness in which I was thrown under the bus by Todd Ryan in regards to my shopping during the Follies. If I didn't take Norma Miller, Marilyn Conner, and, in the future, Sandy from Idaho Falls and Gen Just under my wing and point out possible buying opportunities...who would? You men could improve your flying by taking a break and getting in touch with your feminine side and hit a Mall now and then.

Sincerely,

Kathy (Miss Kate) Conner

Dear Miss Kate,
If my friend Todd is, once again, causing grief to all and sundry, there may well be a logical explanation - do you by chance have a cherman accent?
Cheers, Dave

PS: Hiya Todd!

Dear Miss Kate,

Thank you for gracing us with you beautiful smile. It’s always coming up sunshine when you’re around.
NOW that I got that smile on 100% WHY don’t you enter beginner next FALL?
Shopping is for………ah………gee………gosh………can’t say.

Miss Kate, As always a great get to gether wih you and Mark. Mall shopping..Well my good friend that's something for the younger folks. Ginny has always enjoyed being with you on your 'hunting" trips, but even she needs to just sit and watch the old man make little pieces out of bigger parts.
regards,
Joe Just (who never fails to get a kick ou of the fact that you always seem to order steak, but never eat one!)

Humor..God's gift to us to keep us from making sausage out of each other daily.

Grassing? Scat, you don't need Spell-Check. There must be something better. Tho Kathy entering Beginner is a great idea. Can't believe you came up with it all on your own. I really missed all youse.

Does buying "stuff" at the Sportsman's Warehouse and that hobby shop over on Lancaster Blvd. count as "shopping"? I know there's a subtle difference between "goin' to git somethin'" and "going shopping", but not quite sure what it would be. I really missed going down there this year, but at least I can promise my appendix won't keep me from it again. Steve

I "shopped" at Floyd's Equipment Company in Tacoma today. Went to pick up some scraps for weights but ended up buy other stuff. Does that count?

I learned long ago, that women shop as a way to combat boredom and as a social function. Men aquire, thus they go to a "shop" to buy what they need, and men are terrible impulse buyers. I found this out when I had my tool truck. Amazing what a guy would buy on plain old impuse because he "saw" it. So, no, men never "shop", feminine side or not. Besides, what in L is "our feminine side"???

I think Miss Kate has a great idea. Shopping might be the only way I'll get my wife to a model contest..

Princess, Miss Kate, Turkey molester, etc..
After reading your heartfelt message I must admit I am feeling so guilty about giving a hard time to someone who is such a wonderful lady. I just have to apologize for the abusive language and tone I used in my past email. I am truly sorry if I have caused you any grief.
Who am I to give such trouble to someone that is so supportive of her husband. The encouragement you give by staying in the car during each and everyone of his flights, the clouds of blue smoke from your tires as you drive away after dropping Mark off at the flying field, even the way you laughed at Pat Johnson when he fell down trying to dodge my Sport racer just shows that you are all heart.
Brings a tear to my eye just to think about it. If there is anyway I can make up such a gross injustice on my part, please don't be afraid to ask. -Todd

Mr. Ryan and To Whomever else this concerns,

Not only do I feel like I've been thrown under the bus, but now I feel like I've been dragged at least 6 blocks. Yes, I am very supportive of Mark and his flying. I have never missed one of his competition flights....never. I hate having to remind you of last years competition when I had to tolerate your abuse in the wind and rain, never leaving the flying field once. Have you ever followed me when I leave? Can you honestly say each and every time I leave the airfield that my destination is a Mall? There are beautiful museums and points of interest in the Salem area....it is the capitol of Oregon.

As for getting a little chuckle out of Pat's aerobatics on the ground. That was just a nervous release of tension....really. And, Joe, if they would learn to make an edible steak, I wouldn't have to send it back!

Okay, one more thing before I give this a rest. Todd, how many costume changes do you have to make in one competition. Were you auditioning for GQ magazine?

Once again, gentlemen, it was a very enjoyable contest and we look forward to joining each and everyone of you (even Todd) next year. Mark has such a great idea for his next plane....I can't wait!

Hmmm,

I've been thinking about getting in on this, but Kathy consistently rejects my marinated onion rings and cucumber slices.

I'm not so sure we ought be taking her professions of extreme loyalty to Mark--as in being there for all of his contest flights--too seriously. I mean, she was right there while I timed Mark and Pat in NWSR final, I had some really caustic remarks to make, did so repeatedly. To great gales of laughter from The Shopping Machine.

And what woman with any familiarity at all with CL flying fields would show up wearing *those* kinds of shoes??!! The heels had, what?, 3/4 of one square inch of weight-bearing area? Still, almost all of the muck from Cattle Country had been nicely cleaned off...

At least she's got a good sense of humor, this missive intending to be a test of what "good" means in her case...

Kathy, getting really tired of waiting for a suitable response. In fact, an unsuitable response might well be okay at this point in time...
