Does anyone have experience with this engine (the plain bearing version)? Any idea how it compares power-wise with FP/LA/TT/Magnum .25 plain bearing?

Thanks,

Generally they outrev the LA25, but maybe not the FP and TT. Don't bog it down with an oversize prop(maybe 9/4 max).
Doesn't appear to be much practical power difference between the BB and PB versions.
They do take longer to break in, maybe 2-3 hrs. We've taken LA 25's out of the box and gotten fine flights on the second run.

Clean the engine out, silicon the back plate on. Get the motor hot on the first run like any ABC, but then tighten the dang head on so it'll stay tight. The only problem, other than the brittle prop stud, that I've had with this engine, other than the muffler bolt which is a problem with the os engines too, is replacing head gaskets. If you launch with full power and it goes south, only to do the same the next flight, check the head gasket.

Other than that, the statement that they put out almost like and FP is a crock. This motor is dynamite and with the exception of the head and prop studs would dominate RC combat for light weight and high fuel economy. The plain bearing puts out as nearly as much as the BB and the carb is more reliable. The BB RC carb is junk. Put a moose can muffler on it and gain another 20%. Youssa. I have lesse, 4 scale ships, 3 b size and a coupel spairs, 10 of them? I also have 4 Irvines which are much heavier, take more fuel, but are also very stout, with the exception that I constantly loose carb screws, arrggghhhh. LA's and FP's???? LA's forget about it, FP's??? You gotta work over the head clearence requirign you to take a reading, pull the cylinder and grind the top down till you have a 12 thousanths clearence.

Of course this is all for max RPM's. Also, the Norvel 25 loves the Black MA 9x4. Don't know why, but man it performs well on it. Though I think my Jug would have liked a 10x3 better. Never got around to trying it though. Oh, and on a 1/12th scale mustang I was constantly flying at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, full out without a moose can muffler was too much.

Thanks for the detailed info, guys! William, are the Irvines you referred to BB ? I

should have mentioned in my original post that this is for an expanded version of Fox racing which includes PB schneurle .25s. SCAR, the southern Cal racing organizer, has adopted a provisional set of rules to allow the .25s. Guys in my club are on the lookout for less famous brands that might be fast.

The Norvel should be fast for racing. It may take some learning for hot restarts. I haven't played with mine for racing. Try the usual things, like flipping very fast, trying it with a choke or not, etc.
