what is going on with cox?

ok, so i've been away from the circle fer awhile. what's going on with cox? are they about to kick the bucket? i know that estes has something to do with them but i don't know the whole story. i sure do hate to see them go if that is the case. i've many fond memories of the fleet of .049 powered plastic bricks i have owned since my dad got me that first pt-19 back around '73. incidentally, the last ukie i flew before going to xmitter control exclusively was the chipmunk. that was back in 1990....bought the %#@*#@$ thing on a whim at a wal-mart. i flew about four laps and the engine sagged and would barely keep it on the end of the lines....i actually went about 3/4 of a lap in a tail in the air taxi. took it home and there was a hole in the piston above the ball socket. i gave the cussed thing away to my neighbor's son and he ended up shooting it with his bb gun. i shoulda kept the wing, anyway.

Too bad, if true. But there are *much* better ½A engines available - NorVel, PAW (diesels), Brodak; any of these is superior . . .

That's what's happening with Cox. A Black Widow costs $37 at Tower (and the tank is plastic now!), and a TD is $67.

Not only is it plastic but it does not have the same fuel fill and overflows. The Estes version has one fill tube on the back plate with a small hole next to it for overflow.

Sigh...my first new engine was a Space Bug Jr.

whoooeee!! 67 smackers for a TD? i guess the old baby flite streak in the attic will be sporting one of the norvel noisemakers on the nose when i get around to resurrecting it. i have an ASP .46 ABC with ball bearings that cost less than that. ouch!
