Team Rootbeards first out side Loops ! ! ! With a 1/2 A

We went to go fly last weekend, and man was it fun! We started out with my younger brother at the handle. After his flight he ran off to go play. When it had become my turn, I was on the other end of my Flite Streak trainer. After a few laps, I did the usual loop, except now I actually had control of it, they were nice tight loops. After a while I wanted to try to do outside loop like my dad had just done on his new SKY RAY 35. I could not let him be one up on me, since I did the first loop out of all of us. I tried to to the out side loop and ate the dirt. Ripped off the tank, shatter the rudder, and broke the bond of glue that held my wing onto place. I was pretty bummed out after that, I thought it meant no more loop for the rest of the day, well I guess it did not. My dad got the spitfire out and let me fly it. I thought "Oh great just another half A that want to anything but make you go around and do wing-overs. I got going and was able to do a LOOP! Man was I wrong or what... Then this little plan started to do outside loops! I was real exited then. After that my dad did it. And then Mr. Kreth did it, he was going inverted, doing figure 8s and everything! We just about flew until dark, and that the best way to end, fly until mother nature makes you stop. I also got some pictures of the new design I did on the Flite Streak, new and Improved lighter Tail.

You've done better than me.The only outsides I've done so far have been when I did some figure eights.Have'nt worked up the nerve to just do them on their own.I notice you were flying the Fox 25 again.Did you guys figure out what made it run hot a while back.Can't wait till you guys come back to Kenosha County again next year.

Great job,congratulations!

The Flite Streak trainer has a flat bottom airfoil, so it doesn't make much lift in outside maneuvers. I know. I tried an outside with my son's FST and it looked a lot like yours does now.

Congrats...it looks like you bent the needle valve on your Fox, too. Maybe you should check it out before you try to use it again.
I remember I found outside loops s-o-o-o much easier from inverted flight, or just keep looping the back side of a lazy eight.

I just checked it and yes you are correct. The needle is bent just a tad. We will have to give it a test run.

Be very careful if you decide to straighten it...Foxes have a tendency to snap off flush with the spraybar. Then you have a challenging evening ahead of you trying to coax the broken end out. Or else just trash the whole assembly and put in a ST needle.

I can still remember my little brother was the first one to do an outside loop of the two of us. He was about your age. Once you get those outsides down, there’s no stopping you. All of the other stunts are just piecing together variations of insides and outsides. Inverted flight is just one big stretched out loop. Keep it up!

By the way, that's quite a chunk of lead you've got under the tail. Is the Fox really that heavy?? Maybe you could take advantage of the repair time and shorten the nose a tad? Or does that crowd your tank too much?--Ray

P.S. My first,and forever favorite, profile stunter was a Flite Streak (built-up wing). I learned *everything* on it, including every way to crash there is. After the wing was too smooshed up to repair any more, I centered the half-wing I had left in it and learned how to combat. It was fast, but tended to skid in maneuvers; pretty sloppy. We ended up building several out of old Flite Streaks, Ringmasters, etc. Lots of fun!

Yea that is just half of the lead, the other half is on the other side. This one is a LEAD sled. The CG is way ahead of the LE. I put the weight on thinking it would let it loop a little easier.
I could not shorten the nose as there would be no room for the tank.

Well, the other approach would be: Lengthen the tail. At least you'd have more leverage (=less weight req'd). Dunno how much modifying you want to do. Or, have you given thought to mounting the tank on the inboard side--you could shorten the nose a bunch then. Balancing AHEAD of the LE, it's capable of much better performance if you could get the CG back some.

Perhaps removing the lead from both ends and replacing with an .09 or baffle .15 might be another approach.

I would agree with trying a smaller motor. I have an Enya 19 on my ARF Flite Streak and when Joe and I flew it for the first time, although the motor is not fully broken in yet, I was surprised at how well a 19 pulls it around. It felt like the pull I would expect from a Fox 35 Stunt. I don’t know the specs off had but would assume your FS Trainer is a bit smaller and lighter that the full sized FS.
