Unbelievable, Reserve Not Met!

For what it is worth, he has a whole bunch of other engines that the reserve has not been met on either. One McCoy made it into the black with 3 hours to go. Hmmm.

Obviously just wants to brag (and make us drool), not sell...

I've heard mumblings and whispers in dark corners with stories of people using Ebay to set insurance rates for collectables by putting items up for auction with un-attainable reserves just to see how high people are willing to go, using this as a "top end" of the range replacement value. Pretty sick huh?

If you were a engine collector and belonged to MECA you would probably understand why the price on these engines is so high. For one thing they are indeed very rare and very seldom seen for sale. These are NOT Dooling 61's. They are based on the Dooling 61 case but were then reworked by Bob Underwood and were anodized yellow as his signature engine. Everyone of them carries a serial #. A reprodution of these engines is available for $675. Much more reasonable unless you just gotta have the real thing.

I "collect" engines myself and bemoan the prices, yet, the value of anything is what someone will pay for it, regardless of how ridiculous we may think the price is.
