large reels?

On another post, I read that you might lengthen the life of lines by putting them on large reels. What are these? Anyone have any examples or photos? I hate the thin reels I deal with. The fat one I bought really isn't any better. Plz give me some examples of some setup I might strive for.

Width isn't a real issue ....the diameter of the reels is....a good 6" reel is a lot easier to wind lines on to, I believe. Len, Brodak, and others have them...search / ask for "large line reels".

The Brodak spools are 5", not 6". They cut the hassle by about 50% over the narrow 4" spools new lines may come on. If the 5" spool doesn't suit you, then you'll need to come up with something else. I'm happy with them. Don't f'get to CA in the plastic clip that goes inside the spool. If you have some 4" spools you don't want, I could use a few (with spring clip) for D-Bat lines. Make me an offer....

Make your own. You could even buy a large pulley from Sears (or wherever) and improvise line attachments.

I get mine at the bait and tackle store. I also buy my lines and leadout there. Best part is the reels are only about a buck apiece. After winding the lines on I use a piece of rubber to jam in the reel to hold the lines on.

OK, can you post a pic? I'm really kind of lost here. Examples are best.
If you can't, that's OK. I'll check out the local sources and see if I can do this.

If anyone knows another tackle shop who sells the big ones, please tell me. Bass Pro don't want to send me even a reasonalbe quantity in Oz—or at least they don't answer my emails on whether they will send them here so I am assuming.
