FRYS

Here's a collection not often seen in this universe. SMALL FRY and BIG FRY are British stunters of 1947 and 1948 by Ron Prentice in Taunton, Somerset. My own versions are TINY FRY and FOX FRY, making a total of four of the beasties!~ All except FOX FRY are diesel powered.

At least he is trying. Thanks for the picture Floyd, I have wondered what those planes looked like since you can't tell from a plans list.

Sorry. Somebody had to make the pun. That's a neat group of oldies Floyd. With all of the framework they almost look like free flight ships.I resized the shot to get it to fit the screen a bit better.

I have a retired oil-soaked Big Fry with ED 246 Racer diesel. I think I put a picture on the PAMPA website. Put several hundred flights on it and flew it competitively in OTS a couple of times. 50 ft 012 lines and an 8 x 6 prop. It flew pretty well and would handle moderate wind. It is the only airplane I have put many flights on and never crashed. I was always careful because if I crashed it there would be nothing left but splinters. I may build another one sometime.

Jim T. Running diesels gives new meaning to the phrase "smelling like a pig sty." It doesn't bother me, but after a diesel flying session, I have to toss my clothes in the washing machine immediately upon coming back home. My wife seems to have a better trained nose than I do.

Mr. Dan You have apparently seen my lovely wife of 48 years at some contest or other. Those who have will agree that one cannot do any better in the looks department. I only regret that Phyllis will no longer hold my C/L models for me. I must have a friend or a mechanical stooge in order to fly.

Those are some nice looking Frys. What diesel are you using in the Big Fry and what engine is in the Small Fry?

May have to bump the Small Fry up a notch in my queue for this winter. I have a Mills 1.3 replica waiting for it.

From the construction, you'd almost expect to power them with a rubber band.

George. BIG FRY uses a replica Elfin 2.5cc made by John Targos. Tiny Fry is a Russkie replica of the Elfin 1.8cc but reduced to 0.020 cu in. SMALL FRY has a PAW 0.09 cu in. Of course, FOX FRY uses the Fox 35.
