Metric Screws

I know I am probably going to start something here, but, Was reading the topic on the 40 & 46 LA's. I have the OS 40 LP that I have been running. After the breakin and flying in several planes I decided it was time for a cleaning. Did not need much. But, I went to my local ACE Hardware to replace the silly phillips head screws. So far they have said nothing of me taking an engine or muffler and looking for replacement screws. Of course they may seem expensive at 29 cents apeice. I know I am getting the correct screws this way. Later, DOC

While Greg cited a real good source for fasteners, another is your local hobby shop. No, seriously!

Thanks to the many imported RC cars, Du-Bro has available a rack of nothing but metric screws in all sorts of lengths. Some are even sizes which our local industrial-strength wholesale suppliers of fasteners do not stock.

For locals, I am referring to Tacoma Screw Products. For those not local to the Seattle/Tacoma area, no jokes please. We've heard them all...

For OS Engines particularly, the TOWER Hobbies site, if you browse deep enough (not always a fun thing...) you can find the screw specs for head and backplate (which they call a 'cover plate').

If these aren't listed with the engine 'page' you can call up -- e.g., getting the larger image and "Tech Notes" on that engine, slog through the lengthy OS parts listings for screw and gasket sets for your engine. The thread and length specs are there.

I also match pieces at the local ACE Hdwre; they've gotten used to me by now. <G>
