Stunt modified engines

Hello all in C/L world, I just wanted to say that some friends of mine have mentioned to me that there are a number of people advertizing engines on Web sites that have been modified for stunt by Frank Bowman. In the past I have retimed, machined to remove excess weight,Etc.some K&B engines but very few.Because of my piston ring business I DON'T have time to do these mods.any more. I have rebuilt a lot of engines with new bearings, new ring, Lap liner top, gaskets,C/L venturi, etc. because people feel more comfortable with me doing the work.I have modified a lot of engines for power FF with C/L venturis too. I keep records on the work done to customers engines so feel free to email me and I will look up info. I have or that I can find.I just don't want someone to buy an engine that was stunt modified by me but in reality just rebuilt.Email for Piston Ring & engine Parts List or send needs. has anybody heard of Lew Wollard? I have a Fox 40 modified by him - ebay of course. Looks a nice engine nad the price was right so no grips. Just a curious mind

Lew Woolard, sure. Stunt, combat, racing. Wichita, Kansas. Nice guy, good builder, good flyer.

And he provides very strong running mods.

And you will occasionally find him on this forum (when his computer is working). Nice guy. Does nice work. I second the motion.

Lew makes Fox .40's work real well...gobs of usable power.
And his "breathing" on the Brodak .40 is nifty, yoo.

I have one of Lew's Fox 35s and it really snarls. I am not a Fox fiend by any means, but was very plasantly surprised by this one. Strongly recommended.

Maybe John will comment here but I believe it was one of Lews Fox 35's that was in his Oriental that flew every qual flight and finished 8th in Advanced this year!

You are correct that it was one of Lew's 35s in my Oriental that I flew at the Nats this year in Advanced. Hard to find anything not to like on that particular engine-one flip starts, plenty of power for the 39oz airplane and very consistent runs from start to stop.

I also have a B40 that Lew worked, a SilverFoxx 40 as well as a Tower 40 that he did some work with. I have run all but the B40 with excellent results (the B40 is still in the box awaiting a home). His work is very highly recommended by me, FWIW.

You might want to think also of Byron Barker of C.F. Slattery for modifications. His daily number is 812-948-9167 and evenings at 812-944-8511. His email is [email protected].

just out of curiosity, what can you do to the B40 to make it run better? All the ones I've seen have been pretty darn good. There may be some room for "blueprinting" if a particular motor is at the wide end of the specs for something like head clearance.

I beleive he dropped the liner .020 and did some grinding on the crank for balancing. Might have done other things too.

It looks like we hi-jacked your thread, here, Frank, but I thank you for the information and offer to help anyone who might get one of these engines that you previously worked on.

I will also add that I have heard nothing but good about the work that you do.

You are being much too modest. This post has been praising everybody but you and that strikes me as being a bit unfair. You have a very well deserved reputation for producing excellent modifications and repairs to a number of engine models. (and thanks for the excellent repair of my O.S. 46).
