More photo's added P47 update.

Al sent a note saying all insigna's were painted so I decided to paint mine insted of decals. So off I went. Took all day. Looks good though I think. The last ones I did were when I was in the NAVY F 14s. Here are some shots.

I take it you are painting your P-47 as a F-47 during the post WWII period of the late 40s and early 50s. The reason I ask is that the US Stars and Bars did not have the red bar until after WWII.

I believe it was 1943 only that thet had the red stripe. But I could be wrong.

For a short period only,(end of June 1943 to September 1943) the entire insignia had a red outline,no bars,red or blue, just the white arms. From then until 1947 there was a blue border all around which blended with the star background.The red bars were introduced from 1947 onwards.

The original white star on a blue field,with a red center was introduced in 1921. In august 1942 the red "meatball" was eliminated to avoid confusion with the Japanese "Rising Sun". The white arms were added June 30 1943.

Maybe this helps. The bars are not symmetrically centered vertically, they are aligned with the star.

I do not understand Does that mean your building a war bird?

Robert, I'm building a plane that is just a generic bubble canopy 700 inch plane. The base color (white) ,over the nose (green),red & black trim is pretty much like mine.

Do you have a picture of a Korean War vintage F-47 for us to see?

3M fine line tape.

I thought you were following Billy's lead on the scheme, which is kind of reminiscent of an Air National Guard airplane that was post war with the red bar marking.
No Thunderbolts were used in Korea, but North American had plans and drawings worked up to re-engine Mustangs with Pratt&Whitney R-2800's!

Thats the nice thing about this I don't have to follow anyone's lead as it is not a scale contest.

EDIT:

You'll notice I took out the red bar as I already knew that I had made a mistake in that no P47's were used in Korea. Thanks for the help.
