Yes, this one was high. I lot of NIB ebay ones (and here) go in the $150 range. The guy took a good (if simple) photo, and everything looks strictly new and untouched.

Bet that would make a good stunt engine, NOT!

Yeah well...

Those bidders may not be as crazy as you think. Prices for NIB Tigres will continue to rise, now that they are recognized as 'collectable classics' and supplies have begun to dwindle. Soon, those buyers will look like pretty smart fellows.

I remember buying a half dozen of them for $42.00 to $45.00 each AFTER they had gone out of production. I also picked up as many spares as I could find. What a deal!

I recently sold an ST-60 for an even higher price and shipped it to the German Junior Champ for use in his 2005 ship. He considered it a good buy and was VERY happy to have it.

You may not believe it from watching eBay but these items (NIB) are getting scarce.

This no more crazy than the Cox RR1 that is now up to $416. However, I do understand where Bigs is coming from. These things just don't go down in value, unless you run them.

I don't know, but here's another one. Be interesting where this one ends up.

$230, and it doesn't even have a venturi or muffler.

That beauty should bring $500 if it had the "RIGHT STUFF"

I bought it and it will be on a classic ship. The bad part is it will also hit the pavement sometime in it,s life. That is why I have 14 of them. I was never privy to real control line when I was younger. So I have to buy them now when and where I can. I know you can buy LA,s and FP,s cheaper but I like the run of the ST-46. I am using the cheap ones to learn with and will mainly use the ST,s in contest.

I have a basket case G21/46 ,new crankcase, all it needs is re-ringed. Basket case sold.

When I see how much people are willing to pay for these 46's it makes me wonder why not pay a little bit more and just get a PA or Ro-Jett? Parts are alot easier to get.

With a good-running ST-46 you really don't need many parts.

The bore is chromed, bearings and NVAs are easily available. Frank Bowman makes beautiful rings and almost everyone makes venturies. The only things that you can't find are new cases and heads. (If I had those items, I'd build a couple of "New" 46s.)

If you actually wear the engine out (And that may take a few years.), a rebuild runs about $65.00. At that price, the well used ones that are selling for $75.00 or less, look dirt cheap to me.

Whats the problem?

If you like these engines and many flyers do, theres no reason in the world not to run them. If one wants something else, other choices are available.

I had Frank Bowman rebuild all my ST 46's and the average was around $31.00. This included his new ring, new bearings and gaskets and Socket head cap screws and a complete check. Is the crank bent and some required the sleeve to be squared and lapped into the head for a good seal.
I'm one happy camper.

I have the tooling to make the S/T .46 head and, I have made/sold 18 of them in the (distant) past.

I could make another small run of them, are they worth $50 apiece shipped?

I really think that your price is kinda high... It's much too close to the cost of a complete and rebuildable ST-46, UNLESS yours has the Big Jim type Hemi chamber.

Even then, Big Jim (Who may well be out of the engine game, since his latest trial by fire.) only charges $100.00 for a completely blueprinted engine with the hemi mod included.

Personaly, I'd look for a run-out mill and then send it to Frank for a rebuild. I've done it several times already.

Greg is absolutely correct. My last few ST-46 rebuilds only cost around $31.00 including parts.

If you want a 'user' thats all you really need.

PS: If you can machine me one with a Hemi-head I might be interested...
