Has anyone had luck getting a Norvel .061 working smothly? If so please respond with a setup that works for you. Thanks, Steve

I've had good luck with mine. I poured some high nitro fuel (some 55% stuff that I had scored at a shop that had ordered a case by accident), then, when I got to the real hobby shop, I picked up some Taff's 35%, although several use Cox fuel. These little motors like lots of nitro, offset and flat props! I use a 5X3 Tornado, as it is almost unbreakable.

See Ya

What type tank setup are you using? I am setting one up now with an old Perfect #7 tank modified to uniflow. Think it will need muffler pressure?

What exactly do you mean? If you are talking about breaking in, just be patient, these engines do take some time, You will be restarting and constantly on the needle for quite a few tanks, then all of a sudden it will smooth right out and run like a top. I use anywhere from 15 to 35% Nitro, a 5x2 to a 6x4 APC for a prop. Once you get it broken in, they really are smooth runing for a small engine.

The Norvel should be an excellent engine. Matt originally had a TD .051 on his and it flew very well through the pattern. He later switched to a Russian .049 that provided even more thrust and better consistency. It seems to me that the .061 Norvel was used by Bob Baron in a "half A" plane which he actually flew in the finals of the FAI trials when he lost his primary plane in practice.

No, he didn't win, but we stood in awe at what the engine could do and how well the plane could fly for such a small power plant.
