Letra_ Sets

Anybody have a trick for reviving old letra-set's? Aside from getting new ones. I went to art store and bought the last of the letra-sets and there stale:'(

Try three things.

1. Run a tack rag over the side with the lettering if there is dust or debris on that side. If they are clean....

2. Warm them with a hair dryer right before application. This has a tendency to soften the wax/polymer composition and makes them tacky. They will transfer better. I used to do this on old thermal transfer ribbons for printing product labels. It does work most of the time.

3. If this doesn't work.... do what you suggested in your post.

What I did was rubbed them the best I could and what didn't take just went over it with my Repidograph pen.

I'm pretty sure that Tom Lay or Larry Foster sells Letra-Set...just can't remember which. Freshness/Quality is assumed. An email should give the answer, two max. Steve

Tom could no longer find a vendor and as far as I know doesn't have any. I got some nice sets from Randy Smith.
I bought out an art store in Kansas City on a layover. They were blowing them out at a dollar a sheet!

If all else fails, use your computer to print out the text you want on clear decal sheet (Micro Mark handles it) and do your lettering that way.

I was talking to Chris McMillin over the weekend, and he even does his letra-set onto decal paper rather than fighting with getting it directly on the model. Cool idea, that!

I was able to get new dry transfer lettering from University of Washington Bookstore. They had many, many, many designs (more than a hundred). All in stock. This was about a year ago.

I'd imagine a local university bookstore would also carry them.

Clean 'em and scan 'em.

Do a translate to vector graphics.

Generate an infinite amount of copies from that file.

Time you get done cleaning it up, there will be a monocote cutting service for your file.

Charge us to borrow it.

It's a shame, but true. Whenever we discover a very useful product, it is either "improved" or discontinued. Local art supply store tells me that everything is now done on the computer, making old-time drafting and graphic layout supplies hard to find. Like, I had an extra Bruning drafting machine which cost many hundreds $$ when new. I couldn't even give it away!
