Looking for 4-40 Heli-Coils

The place I used to get 'em is gone. Any suggestions on where to find them?

I picked mine up at an Ace Hardware Store here in So.Cal...

They are in the hardware bins and are called "Threaded inserts"

How many do you want?? I have a good supply of two different lengths.

As measured laying on the bench, 1/8 th inch and 3/16ths inch. Installed they measure appx 3/16ths inch and 1/4th inch. The shoirt ones are great for muffler lugs and the long ones for head bolts.

I've never used a Heli-coil. But this posting got my interest up again.

I came up with the same conclusion as years ago. To use the heli-coil, you must drill and tap the hole much bigger than before. In many applications, there won't be enough "meat" on the engine to do this.

In the rare cases where I stripped 4-40, I just went up to 6-32. I can see a heli-coil on car engine, where you don't want the next guy to see an oversize bolt. But on a model engine, I'll just go up the the next bigger bolt.
