Cable Replacement in Hunt Handle?

I have an old CSC "Tru-Just" handle. I have a faded memory of a discussion about the cables failing in these handles where they are joined to the in-flight adjusting mechanism.

At our field, I am frequently called upon to fly other guy's models. The somewhat wider line spacing and in-flight adjustable neutral makes this handle a great choice when I have to do "Chuck Yeager" duties.

I sure would feel like a dork if the cable failed when flying someone else's ship!

Can the cable be replaced?

Also, has anyone successfully shortened the rather long arms of this handle?

I saw a Tru Just at Brodak's last summer, maybe the year before, that had the arms shortened. Didn't ask as to how it was done. (??)
Bob should be able to tell you how it can be done, along with whether or not the cable can be changed.
