I place 1 or 2 good size orders a year with Microfasteners.

We did a bulk club order with them this year for an extra discount. The mixed boxes (samplers?) are welcome raffle prizes.

These guys drag their whole assortment up to the WRAM Show, in February. Savings achieved on a dozen or so bags of teeny screws will often justify tolls, admission and gas to get there.
They have always been very prompt with shipment and have an incredibly high fill rate.....100% to me and others that I know.

yeah, I get a pretty big order for nuts, bolts, and washers each year from them.
A lot of stuff I can't find around here in the "taps" (1/4-32 glow plug tap), etc., that the locals don't have.

Can someone tell me the diameters of self tapping screws?

#0, 2, 4 etc don't tell me much!

(I need new sheet metal screws larger than the originals to replace the coverplate on my 1974 Dobro Model 30).

The originals were about 3/32.

The #4s should be slightly larger than 3/32, the #6 slightly more than 1/8. I've found 2mm sheet metal screws are slightly smaller than #2, 2.5mm somewhat larger. I used to buy a lot from Micro Fasteners, but now I'm halfway around the world, I get my hardware from a local nuts'n'bolts shop. They seem to have most everything, except for those exceedingly nifty socket head sheet metal screws.

I gota sample #4 from a UK supplier recently and it fitted perfectly - but I had no way of knowing whether that #4 was the same as the #4 sold in the US.

It had a nasty BIG head though and was zinc plated where I need shiny!

hey bud ...they are talking sae (society of american engineers) sizes ... not a lot of help to a metric guy ... ur guitar was made here though ... 3/32"is.0938"(2.38mm)....its probably a #4-40(sae) o/d is .1145"(2.9mm) .. close to an m3.5(metric)o/d is.1195"(3.05mm) this difference is approximately .005"(.0126mm) does this clear it up for ya?....jim
