As some know, our AMA requires that SIGs be comprised of only AMA members. They have been turning a blind eye but the rule is still there.
My thoughts we could achieve our AMA's desires if we allowed ONLY AMA members to vote? The non-members would then be subscribers. It's easy to verify Academy membership on the internet.

I always thought we had to belong to the AMA. Are you saying I can belong to PAMPA only?DOC

Many PAMPA members are not Academy members...family members frequently are not, and well as our foreign members.....

AMA does not require all SIG members to be AMA members. That requirement only applies to those who fly. See the following:

CRITERIA FOR SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS
Special Interest Groups, for recognition by AMA shall:
1. Require continuing membership in AMA for each of its U.S.
resident members who fly. It is the policy of the Academy
of Model Aeronautics, Inc. that membership be available
without regard to race, color, creed, national origin,
gender, age, or disability.
2. Maintain a working set of By-Laws approved and accepted by its
members. (Send a current copy to AMA iiniitiialllly, thenannualllly
allong wiith your renewall forms.)
3. Elect officers at least bi-annually by a ballot of its
members.
4. Require annual renewal of its members
5. Maintain a current membership list. (Send a current lliist
t o AMA initially, then annually along wiith your renewal forms.)

This makes me wonder as to the number of USA PAMPA members who are not AMA members and still fly! OK you none AMA members... drop those handles!

If they are members of PAMPA and fly at contests, note contests, then they are members of AMA. I have never been asked to show my PAMPA card, just my AMA card.

My point..... wording is not clear. It just says fly! No mention of contests. You can be a member of PAMPA without being a member of AMA.
The difficulty is that under current PAMPA bylaws,people who are not AMA members can influence the outcome of issues regarding the PA event. Akin to welfare receipients voting on taxes issues!
