Second: the check is in the mail.

First:
This is a control line engine. It has been used, but appears to be in good condition. It has good compression. I don't know if it runs. S/H on this item will be $ 5.00. Terms of sale: I have described my item as best as possible! I am not an expert at everything I sell.

(pasted from eBay.)

Number one is probably 3 or 4 in one.

However, Paul, there are a number of honest ebay sellers who truly do not know what they own, and what they have is quite valuable, and in better shape that you would think.

But ebay buyers have been smoking these out for years. Bargains still lurk out there, however. They can be discovered by deliberately misspelling search words (Supertigre can be "spelled" at least four ways, as an example), and searching on them.

Another one: A Fox 049 was listed as a "Fox 49", and if it did not have the word "engine" in the title (can't recall), if you searched on "Fox engine", "Fox 1/2a", etc, you would not find it.

We've all been bit on eBay, it's how nature maintains the balance between cheap skates and generitivity.

Best one I ever heard was the car salesman that told me the car's not used, it was "previously enjoyed".

"It has good compression."

"I don't know if it runs. I am not an expert at everything I sell."

I always take these statements as made in ignorance. If he's "not and expert" how would he know if it "has good compression"? I know modelers that can't tell if and engine has good compression or not. Some thing good compression is indicated by the sound as the engine is turned over. I'd say that the risk is on the part of the buyer unless you can be assured with a question to the seller that he really knows what "good compression" is.

Sounds like the explanation of used car lingo from Mad Magazine 50 years ago.

Body Perf--Body perforated with bullet holes
Pr st---probably stolen, not power steering
It went on but I can't remember them all.
