From everything written here about the woes of PAMPA, I deduce that the EC/Trustees is/are the controlling factor of PAMPA.

According to a post quoting the by-laws (Brad, Doug??) all proposals must first be approved by the EC, and they even have the power to establish the final wording. Are we afraid that the EC will not hold the best interests of the true vision of PAMPA when proposals are made?

Even if a by-law proposal was to be sent to the membership with out the EC's approval, It would be my understanding that the EC could declare it null and void due to a misconduct of procedures.

What am I missing?

John Brodak is the President. After reading what has been posted/quoted as fact here, it appears that about the only uncontrolled power he has is to appoint committes.

Ron Burn spoke of personal axes to grind. With all due respect to everyone here, the more I see the more this appears to be true.

Let's get back to the stunt ships, flying percision aerobatics, and contact your Director if you are a PAMPA member. Some of this is really becoming juvenile. And I should know, I have taught/coached juveniles for over 30 years.

Sounds pretty simple when laid out like that. Then again, if you coach you have to be good at simplifying things. The district director thought is a good one-I talked to KBT a couple of days ago about this stuff, and am at ease with everything now.

Hi Steve,
Have you noticed that the most vociferous ones in the other threads on the downfall of the "competition side" of PAMPA (to which we both are members in a lesser degree) have side stepped any comment on this?
I did get a recent post from Preston on the related post I made, but it was of no help.

I want to know where my assumptions on the workings of the EC and PAMAPA are flawed.

No one wants to say.

Maybe this means that I am correct in my assumptions as to the actual workings of PAMPA, but if they agree to that then there is no further need for discussion on the subject and that would deprive them of dazzleing the rest of us with their abilities to repeat the same old same old time after time.

Maybe that is the mentality of many, I don't know. But 181 replies to the post on the presidents message??
And he appears to have no control over any proposal that goes to the general membership for a vote.

Actually, you guys have missed the point. I have replied to a couple of other threads after trying to stay out of it for so long, but you guys have missed the point. How many times do we have to say it. And how many times do we have to answwer. John lied! Maybe it was unintentional, but that is how it comes out. He said in his president's message that he has submitted poposals to the EC and he did not. He said they would be submitted shortly to the membership and they haven't even been seen, much less approved by the EC. If he had said "he was planning to do this", there would have been no outcry. If he had said, "if they pass the EC, they will go to the membership for their approval" there would have been no outcry. Now some of these proposals are coming to light and it appears that an end run is taking place.

The point is, if these proposals had been submitted to the Executive Council without making a big issue of it, they could have been hashed, rehashed, discussed, whatever in private. Those that gained approval of the EC whether "as is" or in amended form would have gone on to the membership and there would have been no problem (other than the normal campaigning for and against certain issues).

John made the mistake of making this public with some incorrect statements at that. That was his mistake. And now those who wish to correct this mistake are being bombarded by such as you with your silly challenges. Is everyone going to put up a challenge on the board and say "answer me or I am right and you are wrong"?

I am ready to start deleting, guys. This is, indeed, getting out of hand.

(I see Godwin's Law extends even to a forum about model airplanes. That's REALLY stupid, and totally uncalled for.)

I have a feeling we can expect these political squabbles every two months, each time a new President's column in SN is read and picked apart, word by word.

Len..... You speak of this getting out of hand but your statement regarding the "end run" is the sort of thing that's fueling this whole issue. You seem to be privy to certain information regarding the proposed changes but like everyone else you allow the vast "unwashed majority" to fill in the blanks. Len you've been around long enough to know that most folks will assume the worst!

You are being as judgemental as some others in suggesting that John Brodal "lied". That's a pretty harsh statement. Given that these SN columns need to be submitted a few months in advance of publication, consider the possibility that John Brodak may have misjudged how long it would take to get the rough drafts perfected prior to submission to the entire EC for consideration. He certainly is guilty of "premature publication" and should know better.

Under the current bylaws, there is no possible way that he can avoid that final voting step prior to presentation to the entire membership to pull off the infamous "end run".

I consider myself a pragmatic guy and for my part, I think I'll quit reading these posts and wait for the final proposals to be presented and then make my decision. I'm tired of rants, raves, smoke and BS without any factual data to back it up! Some wish to grant John Brodak far more power than he really has. I'm sure that he wakes up every morning in bucolic Carmichael, PA and puts his pants on one...... well you know the rest.

It's just my opinion, but I think the majority of PAMPA members really do understand to purpose of PAMPA and will not vote for any issue that dilutes or radically changes the goals and objectives of the organization. Let's give the silent majority the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe my statement was harsh, but he knew had had not submitted it. If it was his intent to submit it, then say so. We all know there is a lead time to these articles. All you have to say is "I am planning to propose some changes and will submit these to the executive council." You don't say "I have done so." At that point you have lost credibility.

And the fact that he stated that he had done so (two months ago) made a bunch of people scramble to find out why they didn't know about it when they should. According to John's letter, he was ready to submit these to the general membership.

My comment is, by stating to the public that these are approved, it places the pressure on the EC to approve them. "We don't want to place the president in a bad light and all." And if they are not approved, then the EC becomes the bad guys.

Dear Leonard,
I know it is your full blown right to delete whatever you want.
I asked a legitimate question about the WORKING PROCEDURES of PAMPA, and you, quite frankly, insult me for it.
Maybe you missed MY point. I did not, as you put it, "put up a silly challenge".
Also, check my reply to my related post.

Leonard,
It seems that John is willing to air out his thoughts whether they are popular or not. Bottom line is any proposal must be voted on and passed by the executive council or it remains a helpless thought. You say these thoughts/proposals should have never been public until after the executive council whittles it to their liking. Why the secrecy? Whether everyone knows or not the E/C still gets first jab at it. If I submit a proposal that everyone wear yellow tennis shoes while flying, am I bound and gagged from telling onyone else until the E/C votes on it? Everyone that pays $35 a year to be a PAMPA member should have the right to know what's going on. If they don't know how their district leader conducts himself at the E/C, how are they supposed to form a basis for which to vote for him?

I agree that every PAMPA member is entitled to know what's going on. If John would air his vision of what he wants PAMPA to be and how it will help us in the future we might be more receptive. Not necessarily the details, just the overall plan and it's benefits. I am a member of the EC and I have not received any information from John. Not even a response to a recent inquiry. And he wonders why we are not enthuasiastic?

If you are on the executive council and don't have John's proposal then there is no proposal. It absolutely can't be passed without you voting on it first. You have nothing to worry about.

I think the #1 problem most of us have, is that the entire EC, all 11 District Directors, were not included in the proceedings. Why?

I will bet good money (and I'm not a betting man), that Combat, Speed and Racing would not join with us anyway. Navy Carrier and Scale, maybe. In any case, then we would have to change the name, and uh, well, that would leave PAMPA available for a Precision Aerobatics and Pilots Association to be re-born. I don't think it's right to step into a successful organization, take it over, and then change the purpose and name to suit your own goals, even if those goals are good ones. Start a new organization. It's the right thing to do. Steve

Len:

It seems to me that the proper place for the President of PAMPA to respond and/or correct is Stunt News. For him to get into an internet debate would be totally inappropriate. We are dealing in real time here on the net and his next chance to properly respond to the PAMPA's members will reach us in 2 months. Let's give the man a proper chance to respond.

We all know how the other guy feels by now. This may be just the right time for you to enforce a "cooling off" period on the verbage and allow reality to catch up with rhetoric.
