kids club needs help

Here I go again. On Dec. 5 I will be at a street carnival showing my line of control line models, and helping younger kids build some of my kits. The local hobby store and myself are going to try to start a club for 1/2A modelers. We have a place where kids can build their models with supervision and a site to fly in. These kids are mostly from a poor section of Long Beach, Ca. so after they buy a kit we will help them with glue, tools, and paint; the things that you aquire after you have flown a couple of times. The bigest problem that we still have is ENGINES. If there is anyone out there with a working .049 engine with a fuel tank attached we could sure use any donations to get the kids started.
I am supplying a couple of engines myself but unless we get more They will have to swap the engines from plane to plane. I know that anyone helping will receive a special blessing from Jim Walker.

I should be able to come up with something. Do any of your designs use the Cox plastic backplate engine with a separate tank. There are lots of those engines out there.
Where and what time is the street fair. Post it on upcoming events on SSW.

What size engines are you looking for? Better yet, where do we send them? You neglected to mention a shipping address! My wife says I have too many engines... imagine that! I figure that if I give some away, then I can buy new ones to replace them! Ebay, here I come! Lol!

We need .049 engines (Cox, OK, any) also glow heads. We are using this size engines because the flying site is small and in a residental neighborhood. I am collecting them here and testing and/or repairing them before I give them to the kids.

No, not yet but I am looking for them every day as they will sure help. I have collected 3 other engines that I need to add fuel tanks to. I have put together a basic trainer that will cost club members $10.00 and that is a flexable amount, so $10.00 is to much I can lower it. I feel that they will do better paying for some things and will appreaciate them more.

Up here in Northern California (Sacramento), it literally rains Cox .049's at least twice a year! Yep, they just fall from the sky and bounce on the ground like hail! I merely scooped up a couple hand fulls and mailed them to you! Lol! Actually, I seem to be the dumping ground for .049's since I'm the only guy in my club with young kids (ages 6 and 9). Both of my sons moved up to .20 sized Skyrays and Flite Streaks this summer, therefore rendering all those .049's unused. So... find good homes for them, where they will be enjoyed! Thanks for the kind words as well! As for any favors... I believe there was a personal blessing by Jim Walker promised? I sure would like to be able to move up from Intermediate to Advanced stunt next year! (GRIN)!

Hey Ted, as I recall, every September you can see Fox .15's falling from the sky!!! Did'nt you win the "World Famous Fox .15 Hurl" a few years back?

Actually, it's the month of October, and no I didn't win. I threw the venerable Fox 15 the farthest three years in a row, but lost to Phil "the old man" Granderson. Due to the old "fart rule", he received an additional ten feet to his actual throw. My personal best is 212 feet.

For anyone working with a group of kids on flying models I have an offer. It covers everything from finding foam locally to coring wings and is a good primer if you have not cut your own foam wings yet. Yes Doc. the box came and thanks to your generosity it looks like we will have several new members to our hobby, and good news to the old timers who do not want to give up any time on their flying fields to kids we will have our own place to fly. Thanks again Doc.

I am sorry that I was not able to get back to SSW ealier. It rained on 12-4 then stoped around 7 AM on 12-5. I got set up and it started to rain hard from 9 AM (1 hour before we got started) until 7 PM. Well I got soaked and frozen and signed one young lady to the club. No one showed up and the fair started crumbling at 9 AM. We have not quit, this is a year long effort so far, three news papers have said that they will carry articals about the club and I am working with the hobby store for another show in January or Febuary. We did get some more donations from some local people and my friend John Wright. This is only the first store that I am working with to get local kids involved in model flying.
