Too bad it is raining today. I hate taking flash pictures of airplanes, takes away all the sexy glimmers. The Solace would look a lot better in the sun.

Hey, thanks Big D. That is high praise from you. I do appreciate that.

BTW Dick makes more than beautiful handles. Everything Dick makes is beautiful. His airplanes, toolboxes, storage boxes, handles, reels, everything!!! All finished to a minimum of second row at the Nats quality.

He should really be selling flying boxes for royalty. If the Queen Mother flew CLPA, she should would insist on a Big D flight box. Nothing else would represent her station.

Very outstanding - nice to know what you can accomplish with some Harbor Freight tools.

Indeed....

All of my air paint spraying equipment except for my compressor was purchased from Harbor Freight. The compressor came from Wal-Mart and was actually a return/upgrade when I burned up my 3/4 HP Campbell Hausfield while running a DA.

Even my buffer was ordered from Harbor Freight.

I shot black over metallic copper through door screen. The stripe on the top matches.

Stole this. From JOE REINHARD on Cycle 6. Joe is one of the best, and I mean that.

That's nice work Brad. I too like the weave behind the canopy. Planned or fortuitous accident? Either way, it looks very cool. Metallic colors are a pain to work with, but the effect is sure nice.

Very nice, Mr. 'Zilla. I like the Solace, and especially the screen mask idea. Fake Carbon Cloth is next! Is this the model that has the OZ-Cover? I got some last week from our local supplier, Art Grabow, aka Saturn Hobbies of Washington. But there's very little in the way of instructions. Hints would be welcome. Can't wait for the article to come out in Flying Models about OZ-Cover! Steve

Yes, it is. The entire model except for the fuse is covered in Oz Cover. The process is intriguing, but still, as of yet very flawed. The idea is so interesting, and the wood prep is non existant, but adhesion is sketchy at best (read that--it really sucks).

The fuse is covered in 3/4 oz glass and thinned West Systems epoxy. It is totally bulletproof. I suppose I will do the Zone 2 using this process for the whole plane, going back to a fully sheeted wing. I see no real weight benefit from the new process, even though, in the beginning the OZCover was sooooo sweet. I covered all the parts sitting in front of the TV in the living room. No stink at all, and no grain at all.

Bill Wilson and I are still formulating an adhesion scheme. I figure the thing to do would be to wipe the whole OZCovered portion of the plane in either thinned clear or epoxy, THEN procedd to primer (almost none is required). The epoxies seem to stick great, acrylics are sketchy and basecoat is horrible.

So, paint adhesion is the problem? Well, they do say to paint with enamel. Did you scuff with Scotchbrite and wash with acetone? They claim not to have butyrate dope in OZ. I was gonna leave it clear, add some $kote trim and paint the fuse & tail. Should work? Thanks for your reply, Steve

Awesome Zilla, the screen work is a cool touch, nice texture, give's it depth.

I seem to remember reading about some guy that won the Nat's with a talking airplane that shot paint through some lace on his ship way back when to also give a neat looking effect...I wonder what ever happened to that guy, and if he still hears his plane's talking to him??...heh.
