Some interesting statistics

Well, President's message has surpassed 200 posts making it one of the longest running threads here. Since I don't have time read them all, I decided to collect some statisctis from the thread so see if I could see any trends. Here's what I've got:

There were a total of 49 individual participants
4 were PAMPA trustees either current of starting their term in January
10 were NOT PAMPA members
Total PAMPA membership is 1882(from PAMPA home page)
2.07% of PAMPA membership participated in this thread

There were total of 204 post at the time this info was collected
Top 5 most active members posted 80 messages or 39.2%
Top 10 most active members posted 115 messages or 56.4%
Non PAMPA members posted 26 messages or 12.7%
PAMPA trustees posted 16 messages or 7.8%
Top 50% most active posters produced 85% of this topic's content

Chip is still in pieces but the wing has been cut part and is back together. I make so many mistakes, I worry about every glue joint now. The way things are going, I'll either end up in a hospital for worrying too much or the plane will get finished in 10 years!

Maybe I should finish the Stoli special at your place.

Thanks. I've wondered about this.
My theory is that we'uns on the net often suffer from the delusion
that we're somehow the entire community. Of course, I mean more
than stunt. Pick any community on the web... We all get excited and
decide this or that, but the bulk of most any community does not
participate in these online discussions.

So, much care is required before drawing conclusions
based on online discussions.

I am so glad to see some stats concerning our discussions and the relativly small number of indivduals who tend to dominate them.

It reinforces my feeling that most of the conflicts that we observe here really are 'tempests in a teapot', dominated by the same old guys, sawing on the same old logs (Yawn...).

Theres probably an even larger number of indivduals who don't post on SSW for fear of being flamed, defamed or otherwise caught in the crap.

At best, we're arguing with our friends. At worst, we argue with our selves. Both are self distructive while neither is conducive to good relationships, strong friendships or a happy life.

Another "pet peeve" of mine is seeing someone complaining here about something a trustee have or haven't done. Whether it is legality/correctness of the PAMPA treasurer counting the votes or actions of the president, if you have a concern, TALK TO YOUR DISTRICT DIRECTOR. That's what they are there for: to represent your interests and/or concerns. Either way, this forum is not a good place for it.

In the early 90's, I've lived through a major flame war that consumed the internet and it tasted just as bitter. Anthropologists and sociologists wrote dissertations on that phenomenon. You know what they came up with? No matter what you say in electronic medium, it will ALWAYS sound 10 times worse than discussing things in person. The only thing internet is good for is storing knowledge derived from live contact/discussion between individuals. A positive discussion can take place on the internet but it requires so much discipline that it is more often than not leads to hurt egos, feelings, etc.
Think what threads on this forum turned out the most valuable? VF40 setup thread by Brett, Construction articles by Al or painting with polycrylic paints.
Think which ones are the worst ones? Anything related to PAMPA/AMA/FAI elections/rules/politics.

Let’s help each other learn. Let’s show each other what we build. Let's discuss aerodynamics, designs and history of stunt here. There are many ways one can have their day spoled. Let it not be due to what the read here on this forum!

P.S. Also, let's help Steve with his grammar and spelling.
