I've seen some wild ones on e-bay, but this for an engine that's still made and widely discounted for $60 brand new?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34055&item=5935219675&rd=1

At the time of this post, it's up to $129.49 with 40 minutes left. It doesn't even have a muffler. I've been watching for a few weeks, and new ones like this generally go for $40, clean used ones for about $10 less.

I guess "shiny" means a lot.

EDIT: Sold at that price!

This guy has a bunch of engines all bringing top bucks,,, I should be so lucky.

Also selling this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34055&item=5935219712&rd=1
HP 40 R/C SUPER CHARGED MODEL AIRPLANE ENGINE VERY RARE

I've thought about this concept but not in very much depth but seems to me that there has to be a pressurized fuel system. Pressurizing the intake of a two stroke motor will reduce the fuel draw without it. Pressurize it enough and it's possible to push the fuel back down the fuel line unless it's pressurized. Am I think right on this?

The guy who is selling this engine has got the ideal situation going for him. Two guys are fighting over this engine. It has become an ego thing, and common sense has flown out the window.

Meanwhile, I have a much rarer engine (an OK cub .29) going out in two hours, and it is only at $50.00.

ebay doesn't make any sense at all. (that's why it's fun!)

When I am selling something on ebay an auction like this worries me. After the auction the bidders realize they made a mistake and refuse to pay.

This has got to be a mistake. He has an Akromaster going for $47.69 with less than 10 minutes to go. I think I have one I would be glad to sell for that price. Either it's a mistake or he has his buddies bidding for him.

Well, the auction ended and I got $66.65 for the twinstack Ok .29. Not bad, but not a killer deal. I always ship engines insured for $100.00. That way you have a paper trail all the way to the buyer's house. It prevents problems. If you insure an item for less than $100.00, there is no paper trail.

No. I believe you are thinking of it in static terms. But then the huffer, uh wouldn't.

You guys obviously don't know Willie and Gabby. This guy has more engines and plane related stuff than you would ever believe. He thrives on estate sales and is ALWAYS looking for that killer deal. If you want quick cash then sell it to him. If you want your monies worth then don't. His auctions always bring a premium price and if he thinks it is to low he will end the auction at the last minute.

Bill

I build more planes than I fly, collect more engines than I'll ever use. That about says it, right?

I think we all already know that Fox Mfg. Co. will send you a nice Fox 35 for 1/2 price if you send them any old worn out motor in exchange. If you deal with Fox over the phone, they will send you a 35 from their "running room". This is an engine that for some strange reason has all the manufacturing tolerances adding up just right, making a superior Fox motor.

Yeah, that's the one I have - except I was dumb enough to get the CL version without the muffler. It will be interesting to see what it fetches on e-bay. I have a hunch that working a deal with Fox or MECOA for a trade-in with mine will be better.

Jim, you will be very fortunate if you can trade your Fox for a Johnson. Johnsons have an almost cult following and normally bring much more than a Fox.

Ok .29's and .35's still have value for collectors. They are rare these days because not many were sold, and fewer survived boat anchordom.

I have never bought an engine from their "Run Room" that puts out a little "extra". I have known about it since the early 70s but felt no need to go the extra inch for one. I pick my engines fron either the local HS or pick up the phone and call Fox mfg on their toll free number and just say send me "X" number of 35 stunts and give them my Visa number. I still get good engines and usually out run others in the Foxberg and Foxy Hazel races. My stunt engines are just CAREFULLY broken in as are all of my engines.
The engine of the subject of this thread is the earlier version of the shiney case version and being with the original box, it is a sought after collectable. I have TWO of the next version that came out in the box with the celophane window in the top. They are not worth as much. Mine are also NIB.

If you notice, the carb is before the turbine so fuel draw is not a problem. There's no waste gate that I can see. It must get some blow back out the carb. When all the ports are open, it must blow alot of raw fuel out the exhast. I wonder how the rotor is timed? I'd like to see the inside of the turbine section. Wow, $495 and still not enough?

If you insure an item for $100.00, the buyer has to sign that he received it. It can be traced.

I have been shipping items via USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. So far, knock on wood, no problems. I have a heck of a time trying to collect on insured items that somehow get lost. Can't prove it but think some items have shown up later for sale again. -DOC:-)

Old Sourdough · Nov 24, 2004 04:44 PM

The challenge with delivery confirmation or tracking #'s is that they do not require a signature to be delivered unless such action is specified and purchased by the sender. That way, if a parcel is too big for a mail box, the postal carrier can leave it in front of one's door in front of God and everybody. I've had that happen when I've been away for a week. Fortunbately, I've had thoughtful neighbors pick up parcels from that location and keep them until I return. I have yet to lose one, but I could have. When one is required to sign for a parcel and is not available, the parcel is returned to the local Post Office and a slip is left in the addressee's box advising him of the attempted delivery. I wouldn't mind a trip to the P.O. to pick up a parcel as opposed to the possibility of losing one.

I bought this unused 1957 one last month and was very pleased with it. It really is unused and the price of $62 looks really cheap when translated into UK pounds. I sold a really clapped out one for more money via Ebay in the UK a few weeks earlier and threw in an original Nobler plan to assuage my concience. I now have to decide if I should keep this engine in unrun condition or use it.

My last fox 35, a very good one in the prime of life, clean, good lugs
with stuffer backplate and ST needle valve went for $23 on the bay around a year ago.
A good deal for me really as my quality of life went up as the last of the Fox 35s went the way of the wild goose.

More remarkable - I "won" a 2- bolt cover, 4-bolt-head Fox for $65 a few months ago. Sent it off to Larry Foster for "blessing" along with a Smith/Nelson crank. Total cost was about $150 - I expect great things from this engine. I hope I can measure up to it!

I insure many of my ebay deliveries, and have had to collect only once, on a smushed box. Actually, I would have saved a lot of $ in the long run not insuring anything, taking the risk. When you insure, you basically are betting that the USPS will lose or break something, and they are betting that they will not.

De, the Green slip for $50 was a sufficient paper trail in the single instance that I had to get some $ back from the USPS (I got the $ in a timely manner). Therefore, I recommend, that on a $50ish item, you do in fact insure for $50, and not $100.
