Free Flight Helicopter

I have plans for 2 different free flight helicopters. One is the Cloud copter 25" blade with a tail rotor powered by a .049 engine. The other is the Whriling Wing 48" blade powered by a .15 size engine. Stupid looking old 1960's helicopter bodies could be built to look like something more modern. I would think you will need a 500 acre field to fly this the wind would carry it several miles before it comes back to earth. Has anyone built and flown one of these?

What about those helicopter looking airplanes I have seen pictures of in magazines. Looks like a profile stunt airplane with no wing just a helicopter blade. This silly looking thing might be a blast to fly. Has anyone built and flown one of these?

Hi,
Were you one of those guys who shot an arrow straight up into the air and ran around wondering where it would come down?

Gary, if I'm not mistaken...The District Eight Director, flies a twin rotor C/L helicopter (gyro) on 60' lines...A friend of mine discribed it as a "contraption."

As a square mile is 720 acres, you would actually need several thousand acres if this were, in fact, to happen.

BTW-some interesting plans(20 or 30 CL models) you and the "planman" are posting on the bay.

Actually, you only need two acres. The acre where you launch it, and the acre where it decides to land....

We have a guy in Dist. 11 who has a throttled autogyro, and showed up at a Navy Carrier contest with it, and entered. Very shortly, there was a rule change that made autogyros illegal in Navy Carrier. He's been grumbling about it ever since, but I think he's really pretty proud of causing a rule change. I think it would be fun, except for the throttle part. Steve
