I decided to see if repairs would be practical for the Argus.

First flight with a new engine...... went dead on the intersection of the square eight going up from inverted. Outboard wing was broke into 3 sections, and the fuse split in many places from front to back behind the wing. Hit right on the spinner, but the ground was soft, thank goodness it wasn't over pavement! LOL!!
Structure was sound after all, and the wing went back together without too many problems. So far, very little weight has been gained. I estimate about 1 oz of weight gain when completed. It was originally 37 oz. RTF with a Fox 35.

It was a gorgeous ship before; looks like it will be again. If you have a photo history, it should be submitted to Windy as a "Crash Repairs" article. I'm really impressed by anyone who has the patience to rebuild a severely damaged model!

Thanks Ralph,
I just pulled the engine and tank out and hung it back on the wall when I got home. There were about as many pieces as it had before I started cutting the wood and building! I was pretty dejected. It was a little more "special" to me than most of the planes I have built.
I just took it down a couple months later and started the repairs. Didn't take a picture of it in it's "broken state", just didn't think of it.
It will return!

Wow - a buffed Veco spinner and an original old Top Flite prop - I'm drooling.

What's on that intake? Did you machine a scoop out of brass, and is there something with the "S"?

It is an old Froom spun 2" that survived. It needed the polish job!

Just an "S" that Steve put in his sometimes.
The front of the cowl opening has a thin gold outline. It is as close to the original as it could get. This is the '58-'59 version, not the one that Steve flew at the WC in '60. Very subtle differences.

Thanks Robert,
I had a piece of silkspan from the original that had all the colors on it. I just built it as a memory of Steve and his designs. It is a very good flying Classic ship.
