Check latest Flying Models. Featured are new mufflers, whittled out of magnesium of all things and .20 ounces/5.67 grams light. There's even one bolted to a Fox 35 and it is pictured.
The humor? Look at that spinner nut, the one which if you lose your crescent wrench (known in my farm-boy youth as a "Mexican Speed Wrench") it's not a problem because you've got a four-way lug wrench hiding in the van and it will work just dandy to keep that prop from ever coming off.
This has to have been a purposeful thing! And it is very amusing...
Still with latest FM, my boy Dean Pappas just so rarely gets it wrong. Whack me with a safety thong if you want, his is always the first column I read. This time he begins with mentioning engine "blue printing," a term incorrectly used much of the time. Not Dean, and as always there are neat things here. He even gets into the intake and exhaust passages of four-strokes. If you've never looked, they are painful to see, incidentally...
Dean mentions matching up header pipes to exhaust stacks on engines and that reminded me of a little trick--one of seemingly dozens required to tame a Fox 35--with RSM tongue mufflers (a horribly porky .25 ounces against above mentioned magnesium pieces) is to first bolt a new one to a Fox 35 and then to just go fly. Back home the muffler can be removed and one will see where the exhaust has stained portion of muffler that is an obstruction to smooth gas flow. Simple matter to attack it with a Dremel, letting your Fox breathe a little better.
Up front, Godzilla answers somebody's question about, well, what was the question anyway!? It looks as if Ted, Doug and I all helped Bradley with this, as the blah, blah, blah just never ends. Max points for completeness, however.
Finally, a review of an RC model by ferocious. Snicker, snicker. It's one thing to sneak off to fly RC, do it myself sometimes. But I don't come right out and blab it to one and all via the printed word.
Still, once I get the time I will be revisiting that thread discussing RC and CL flying where Phil made an outrageous statement or two and take him to task. Especially now that I know he is actually accepting money to write about RC models...
